The Saki faction had a major scare as Ryuuka almost fell to a surprise defeat to Komari – it was also surprising was that Ryuuka had a weaker final rush, something we do not usually see with the stronger Saki contestants. Komari’s stronger final rush also coincided with Sakurako’s superior final rush compared to Dekomori’s, so it could very well be a case of the Yuru Yuri faction trying to knock out Ryuuka in an attempt to make things easier for Toshinou Kyouko in Block D. However, upon further analysis, it appears that the largest factor involved in Ryuuka’s near defeat was the combo votes involving Dekomori + Komari, which was double that of Dekomori + Ryuuka. This is interesting, since Rikka’s match against Kyouko will take place on the same day as Saki vs Ryuuka. Perhaps the Chu2Koi supporters were afraid that Saki will form an unlikely alliance with Madoka to take out Rikka?
In any case, Ryuuka’s victory has assured the Saki faction a spot in the Block Finals, while Sakurako’s victory seems to support the notion that Yuru Yuri is turning out to be the real deal this year.
The first major clash for the day sees Kyouko against Tomoka. Both defeated Saki opposition in the first round, and they are also the stronger representatives from their respective series. While Tomoka has the advantage in terms of recent screen-time, Yuru Yuri seems to be a stronger Saimoe series than Ro-Kyu-Bu at present. However, this match could be heavily influenced by the votes of the Saki faction who are eager to knock Kyouko out in order for them to take pole position in Block D. They will be in large numbers, considering Nodoka’s match is on today. However, considering Yuri Yuri’s good form in this tournament so far, I’m expecting Kyouko to ride out the storm.
Combo votes with Kyouko will definitely boost Chitose’s chances here, but as an invidiual Chitose is one of the weaker Yuru Yuri girls in Saimoe, as evidenced by her having the lower vote tally than Sakurako and Himawari in Round 1, where there were combo votes. Meanwhile, Harurun is the last one standing for im@s, and so is Yoshino for Date A Live. Tough one to call here – going for Chitose here just because of the combo voting.
Time for the Mikasa vs Misaka issue to be settled once and for all, though the main competition will probably take place between Biri Biri and Nodocchi. The Raildex ace is craving for that quarter-final spot, while Nodoka is attempting to break Saimoe records and if possible, her semi-final jinx. The victor of this tussle will be the other favorite to win Block F alongside Watashi, so the stakes are high. Nodoka was able to secure 300+ votes despite a lack of big names in her Round 1 matchday and she always seems to find a way in situations like this, so I’m leaning to her on this one.
