The Achiga duo of Ako and Shizu proved too hot to handle as they pretty much left the other contestants trailing behind in their wake. The margin of victory was quite astounding, with Miho and Tsukiko finding no answer to the Saki onslaught. These two were tipped to be the new stars of this year’s tournament, but it doesn’t look too good for them after this result. In fact, it was probably good play by the Saki voters once again – with a decent amount of fakes being involved in the early stages of voting. Ako now leads the voting charts for the prelims, just like she did last year until a certain Yuru Yuri girl overtook her tally. (She’s in Group 16 this time too!)
Asuna grabs 5th, which is a pretty decent result for her considering she’s one of those representatives who are the sole hope for their series in Saimoe, much like Kuroyukihime. Yuru Yuri continued their rich vein of form, sending Chinatsu and Akane in, while Date A Live once again did okay but not spectacular to send Kurumi in, though Origami misses out. Ririchiyo was not as strong as she was last year but she did enough to get 6th, while im@s and Love Live once again had to grind out a spot for Chihaya and Honoka respectively.
So Group 15 next, and hey, we have yet another duo (yeah Saimoe is totally not rigged)! Mami and Madoka are the favorites to top the group, especially with combo-voting and what not. The duo do have some history with each other in Saimoe, as Madoka was defeated by Mami in the 2011 semi-finals in what was probably the latter’s toughest opposition throughout her championship run. A chance of Madoka to get back at Mami, though it won’t really matter much who finishes ahead of the other here.
Their opposition will be the devil incarnate herself – Miyanaga Saki, last year’s quarter-finalist. The Madoka girls won Round 1 of the Saki-Madoka battle back in Group 8, though it was fair to say that that didn’t involve Saki’s main aces. Saki’s not the main ace herself either in Saimoe terms, but it should be interesting to see how much resistance she offers against the magical girls.
There’s also Yukari from Girls Und Panzer, though she seems like an outside bet for the top spot now after underwhelming performances from the girls in tanks so far. There’s always time for surprises though – a victory for her here would certainly send shockwaves throughout and inject a bit of life into the competition.
As for the other spots :
- The second of Tari Tari’s main three makes her debut : Konatsu will be hoping to emulate Wakana’s good performance last time out.
- Yuru Yuri’s on a roll so expect Ayano to grab a spot easily
- Ika Musume will be using that tentacles to exact revenge on Mami after her 2011 quarter-final exit, though she’s likely to fail just like her invasion plans. At least she’ll qualify for the main round though
- Ro-Kyu-Bu’s Airi is the last of the main five remaining, and she should be joining the rest of her friends.
- Kurusu and Saori flies the flag for Oreimo, while Suguha and Silica follow suit for SAO
- Two adorable imoutos – Mikan from TLR and Momo from Vividred. The latter’s gonna have to slug it out though considering Vividred’s dismal performance so far
- Choi from Tamako Market. Though the rest of the cast hasn’t performed at all.
- Haruna from Korezom and Ohana from Hanairo
Prediction (Top 3): Madoka, Mami, Saki
The rest: Yukari, Ayano, Konatsu, Mikan, Airi, Ika Musume, Saori, Kurusu, Suguha, Ohana, Momo
