Well, well. Even after winning the tournament, Toki‘s not resting on
Ryuuka’s lap her laurels as she managed a comfortable win over Kuroneko, who has been expected to mount another challenge this year.
In any case, both of them proved to be a class above the rest as they left the others trailing behind. Minami-ke’s still receiving love from the voters even after a three-year absence, with Kana getting third spot, while Kotegawa Yui‘s 5th place finish indicates that TLR girls still receive consistent backing. Saki from Ro-Kyu-Bu finishes 7th, which would be an encouraging sign for the other basketball lolis who are hoping to step it up this year.
As for the debutants, bad news for Love Live though as it seems that there are set to follow the same path as the im@s girls of 2012, with Maki only managing 9th place. Idols should have it tough in Saimoe, eh? GJ-bu is another series that had a disappointing debut, with Shion not even being able to qualify directly. Little Busters impressed though as Komari finishes 4th, and they probably can thank their KEY roots for that, while Date A Live and Hataraku Maou-sama put in a decent, if not spectacular performance. Joshiraku did well to send two entrees to the next round despite airing last Summer, but the same can’t be said for Kokoro Connect – with the bullying scandal most likely tarnishing the series’ hopes.
Moving on to the next day, we’ll get a first glimpse at the girls in tanks as the likes of Saori, Darjeeling, Pekoe, and Noriko from the Volleyball team head to the front-line. There’s not much competition for them though, so it’s a warming-up session for the girls that are highly anticipated to take this tournament by storm. Saori and Darjeeling should be fighting for top spot.
As for the contestants who could challenge them… Leviathan‘s one of the more popular characters from the previous season, so that could work in her favor. Little Busters’ Haruka will be hoping to build on Komari’s performance, while familar veteran Yuno will be in the mix too. For the other qualifications spots, we have Nazuna who’s tagging along with Yuno, Yayoi from im@s, Karuta from InuBoku, the ever-suffering Nanami from Sakurasou, Suzu from Seitokai Yakuindomo, Alisa from Nanoha, A-Tan from Hayate, Komachi from Oregairu, Miyabi from NakaImo, Yozora from Haganai. Yae and Mairu are Saki’s representatives but it might be difficult for them since they’re no big names that can carry them nor IPS boost for Mairu. Cure March and Cure Heart will be in the mix too, with the latter’s performance an interesting indication to see if Precure can continue their fine streak from last year’s tournament.
Prediction (Top 3): Saori, Darjeeling, Yuno
The rest: Haruka, Leviathan, Karuta, Nanami, Mairu, Yayoi, Suzu, Cure Heart, Nazuna, Pekoe, Yozora
