Bad End

This result is confirmed.

Cure Peace managed to put in a brave performance against Hisa, but her inferior series support was always going to count against her. The decisive factor in this match turned out to be the initial rush – Hisa opened up with a big lead and Peace had to do the chasing thereafter, eventually coming up short despite a strong finish. Still, she’s done very well for a Precure, a series who hasn’t had a good record over the past few years. As for Hisa, her narrow victory pretty much confirms that she’s the weakest Saki girl left, and it’d probably be too much of an ask for her to proceed beyond the QF.

Moving on…

Saki takes a break today to make way for an intriguing clash between Hinata and Louise. At the start of the main round, I don’t think many would have imagined the Block D finals to turn out like this, but here we are! Supporters of the Rie tsunderes have been pulling the strings in this block, though some of them might probably have shocked themselves as Louise gets a spot at the expense of Nagi. Hinata partly benefited from the tactical voting schemes, as she was able to avoid a tougher clash against Saki’s Mihoko in Round 2. On her own though, she’s done well to beat the Asami duo of Kurisu and Chihaya.

Now, the basketball loli faces the toughest test yet – she once again faces Louise, having met before back in the prelims. On that occasion, Louise ended up having 22 votes more, so there’s not that great of a difference. Furthermore, the result of the Airi-Shana match in the previous round would give Hina a confidence boost, especially since Hina’s a stronger contestant than her team-mate. As for Louise, this being her final year would give her an extra push, but she’ll have to be wary of other competitors who’ll see her as a greater hazard – Louise has always been a thorn for the Saki faction, as shown in the first round when Kyapten got knocked out, and way back in 2009 when she was able to overcome Hisa and Stealth Momo. They might just want to play it safe here.

tl;dr Pick: Hinata // Prediction: Hinata

Fuck…. I really don’t mind Saki dominating Saimoe so much (has a nicely colorful and variable cast of characters, even if they’re almost all female… plus, in an age of DFC and lolicon media, I really gotta give some points to a fandom that doesn’t reject, and rather outright worships, anyone larger than a B-cup), but this is one point where the sheer faction strength really worked against my favor. I was banking on Peace to win this one… I’ve never been too much of a Cure fan, but Smile has been a great series, and I would’ve loved it if a character from said series managed to surpass (or at least tie with) the best of the best this franchise has had in Saimoe so far. Besides which, Hisa’s not exactly one of Saki’s most stand-out girls (in fact, out of the main characters’ female club members, she seems to be the second least prominent only next to the meganekko… being the prez and having a rivalry with Captain are about the only noteworthy things she’s got going), and the faction’s already guaranteed more than half of the Best 8 spots, so it’s not like she would’ve been all that great of a loss (the final vote difference being in the lower teens only makes this sting even more).

I guess Peace has a chance next year, what with her series still running (and the annual All-Stars movies may ensure her placement for a good while… hell, Cure Marine got into the main drawing this year, and Heartcatch ended almost two years ago), but she’s probably not gonna have near the same luster she’s got going right now. Not only that, but 2013’s looking really rough, especially if you’re a mahou shoujo (both Nanoha and Madoka are making a come back…. and the next year’s run of anime has just barely started). It sucks, ’cause I really don’t wanna go on thinking that Nagisa was the best that this franchise could do here, but I guess I can take satisfaction knowing that Yayoi was the first Cure to get this far in years. Now to just sit back (sitting back being all I can do… I wish foreigners could get codes again T_T) and see if Saki’s ridiculous strength can at least do me the favor of finally getting Louise out of Saimoe once and for all.

Stuff like this can make you wish that Smile has a sequel, huh… At least Yayoi put up a good fight against a Saki character, and I guess I’m satisfied enough.

Mustn’t forget that she also achieved a Kugimiya kill in the process.

Re: Mahou shoujo shows for Saimoe ’13

Would be even more interesting if the folks at Toei could bump up a certain series to Spring 2013 instead of Summer as rumored.

Hisa is Saki’s most awesome character. If you don’t think she stands out then you don’t know Saki. She isn’t moe but in terms of coolness, she is head and shoulders above any.

      Yup…she can flip the tile.

Wise words. She was my favorite Saki before Toki appeared and when it comes to coolness, only likes of Kamina can rival her.

“Peace Out” – LOL!! I knew that headline was coming. Wish I could hit PowerBall like that! Oh well, it was a great run for a Precure. I’m happy with that.

Pulling for Louise to win this one. Still believe Hinata was a tool, and will continue to be one (the anti-Rie, pro-Saki folks will give her enough defense to take her shot).

MadPanda…(whoever wins here, the Elite Eight draw should be interesting)…
