This result is confirmed.
Saimoe continues to churn out unexpected results as Poplar once again failed to make it past Round 2 in her second attempt. It was supposed to be an easier match-up for her too, considering the fact that she faced an even sterner test back in 2010 (vs Azusa and Stealth Momo). I did mention yesterday that there was a possibility that Poplar might go down if there were to be tactical voting by Shana fans, so that might indeed be the case. Should Yamada start to fear her own chances of making it to R3? Proably not – Yamada probably has more supporters than Poplar – as evidenced by Yamada’s superior amount of votes and vote % in R1 even though her match was more low-key. In any case, Ai’s victory meant that it’s 2 of 2 for the RKB girls in Round 2 – their fortunes have certainly improved after their stuttering start to the tourney.
On to the next matchday then. Two of the Rie tsunderes are up against tough opposition – Aria vs Hitagi and Shana vs Kuroyukihime. Yup, expect combo voting as usual here, so the question is – can Hitagi and Hime survive the combo? The girls from Nisemonogatari have been pretty disappointing in this year’s tourney thus far, but the fact remains that Hitagi is still their ace. Hime is the only spark representing her series, but she hasn’t really been able to attract huge numbers that are needed for crucial matches like this. With this year’s tourney being Shana’s last shot at glory, Hime might be burned to ashes over here. Unless her supporters come out of the shadows, only tactical voting would spare Hime here – will the likes of Mio or Sena supporters take pro-active measures? We shall find out in due time.
tl;dr Prediction: Aria, Shana
