Nothing special today, a somewhat expected thrashing from the three favorites heading into their respective matches. 215 might be low for a block favorite, but I think Poplar will step it up when the stakes get higher. Mio completes a decent Round One outing for K-On, considering what they went through last year. And yeah, superior Hikasa amirite? Finally, Marika shoots the lights out of Minorin and Yukimura, proving that she can gut it out against this level of competition.

Predictions: 3-0 (73-20)

Picks: 3-0 (53-40)

On Deck:

Here we go, final day of Round One. Not sure if this is one of the R1 closers in history, but I think it’s out there. After all, two Saimoe HoFers (if there will be such a thing) are here- 2007 champ Rika and the Flame Haze that could – Shana. And when those two are involved, strange things tend to happen.

Shana was previously invincible in Round One matches until Yuuko happened last year. She has a tricky draw here. Himeji could’ve been a threat, if this was one or two years ago. BakaTest’s lackluster showing essentially has her out of the running here. So Shana’s main opposition will be Another’s Akazawa. I think Shana will clinch this one. So far the main Saimoe storyline shaping up is Kugimiya Rie vs. Saki (Tacos is in both factions, amusingly), and with that in mind, I don’t think they’ll let Shana be denied here in her final hurrah. I see a good hard-earned, bounce-back win from the Flame Haze setting up a spicy matchup against Hime in R2.

I have to wonder if Rika will job to Saki or KamiNomi here. She’s been putting over other Saimoe aspirants over the years you have to think she’s tired of that and want to win once again. I don’t know about Saki’s Wakanne, but she’s capable of winning too. And KamiNomi has been perfect this round so far and will stake that clean slate with Ayumi representing. She had a good run last year, just like most KamiNomis so it’s hard to count her out here as well. Simply put, another hard match to predict. Rena had dismal performance this year so that might be a red flag for a Rika prediction, but I’ll go ahead and do that anyway, despite Wakanne posting a great record in a great group (yeah, Group One once again), or Ayumi’s capability to be a mercurial force.

The closing match has potential, although Sakurako will probably wince  if she sees this matchup. Sena looked very strong in the preliminaries, probably on par with Saki’s aces. And since Himawari finished behind her by a good margin in the prelims, she’s out of this one, making Miu the one to try to check Sena. Mashiroiro has been matched up with aces of Sena’s caliber before, and they didn’t fare too well, so Meat looks like a lock here.

You seem to have greatly underestimated Miu. Still halfway through the day, but she’s been kicking ass since the start of the round. As if that’s not enough, they’ve staged a last-hour rush. Though, barring an almost impossible tie between her and Sena, the result of this match is still gonna suck for me; why did these two awesome characters have to get matched up in just the first round? Meanwhile, the one girl who may be solely responsible for the past half a decade’s worth of Kugyuu fanboying had to be stuck with easy prey…. one of whom happens to be Himeji while she’s at her weakest, just to add salt to the wound.
