It has been a while since we had a tied finish in Saimoe. First time since 2009’s Ritsu-Ushio and Haruhi-Eruruu. Those were not Round One matchups though, so if we’re going to be more specific, it would be the first round one tie since Evangeline-Shana 2007 classic. Coincidentally, 2007 and 2009 are considered two of the “great” Saimoe tournaments. Foreshadowing of great things to come? I certainly hope so.

I actually expected Rea to have a fighting chance against Tsukihi given Nisemonogatari’s mediocre R1 performance AND Ranko making her loss against Subara a *bit* more respectable. True enough, she almost pulled the upset, but in the end I went for Tsukihi in fantasy because Karen did finish better than Rea in a good preliminary group so that swayed me in predicting Tsukihi. Not that it matters as both are considered winners, the two happily advancing to the Round of 97 (as it stands).

I’ve also noted that I won’t really be convinced of Idolmaster’s capability to take it all the way until they start beating aces. Yukiho wasn’t the idol for the job as it seems, Momo with a convincing win over Mayoi and Yukiho just further reinforces what we already know – Saki is the defining series of this year’s Saimoe.

Lastly, the Kugimiya faction is alive and well, with Aria just taking it to Angie and Rihoko, even when her series has been really underpowered this 2012 (see Shirayuki and Riko’s performance).

Predictions: 3-0 (59-16)

Picks: 1-2 (Yukiho, Rihoko) (42-33)

On Deck:

This might be the most straightforward set out of the seven remaining match days. Three-way combo for Saki, with two of them being massive favorites in their matches. Obviously this refers to prelim group winners Ako and Nodoka. So I guess the the question is, who will style the most?

I find it very unlikely that Hitagi will fold here even though like a broken record I’ve been saying that Nisemono is doomed, etc. She’ll deliver, at least in this Round One match.
