Whoa. After Tamayura showed some heart as underdogs in their matches, I had that gut feeling that Maon is capable of getting this one, but I didn’t expect it to materialize. And a margin of more than 50 votes against the veteran Maria even. The Tamayura fan in me is obviously happy about this outcome (which also had fantasy implications for those participating in it). Maria’s back to where she was in 2007, losing in matches she should have won. Obviously much has changed – Hayate is much weaker now, though that is kind of shrouded by Nagi and Hina’s preliminary group wins.
Yayoi predictably routed her foes, which should bode well for her in future encounters. That match against Yune will be really nice, but let’s leave it for another day.
Congratulations are also in order for Sherlock, for finally getting her first win after being royally screwed in the bracket last year. Lotte should be out for revenge in the next round – this I got to see. As for Asuha, close but not quite, but let’s not forget she did great last year. Curiously, both of them ended up faltering to then-quarterfinalist Kuroneko . Condolences to Mayuri, who’s emulating what happened to her in the anime/game, over and over.
Predictions: 1-2 (29-7)
Picks: 3-0 (19-17)
Time for Block D.
Natsuiro Kiseki matches up quite well with the factions that have struggled this year so far, including Infinite Stratos. The latter is looking for its first win this year. Luckily for the series, Houki has proven herself to be reliable in past, albeit she’s not doing so well this year. I don’t think Rinko’s one of the aces in Natsuiro though. IS will probably get a much-needed victory here. Should go down the wire.
Speaking of squeakers, Sana-Kurei definitely has a potential to be one. Mashiroiro can’t be underestimated, although faction strength suggests that Nyaruko has the edge. I did note in the preview that I like Sana’s chances better here however, and I haven’t changed my mind. I think Sana is more relevant, and I found her prelims performance to be far more impressive in relation to her group, as compared to Kurei’s, although she garnered more votes.
Finally, Strike Witches’ vulnerability was exposed a few matches ago, and look for Yasuna to exploit that here to give KMB its first Saimoe win. I would be kind of surprised if this one went the distance.
