I actually expected the Erica-Yune-Sonya match to be highly contested. Only a select few expected Yune to win, especially given the impressive Strike Witches wins that preceded this match, and Erica just recently finished in the top four last year. Furthermore, Erica was comboing with Lucchini in this one.
I need to look for the Yune-Lotte combo, theorizing that this maybe part of Lotte’s indirect revenge after the latter’s ouster last year courtesy of Erica. Nothing to take away from Yune though – this was an amazing win considering the circumstances. She didn’t even have Alice to tag along with her in the main draw!
Speaking of Lotte – the Kugimiya Rie army delivers again, with an utter curbstomping. Things are looking up for Asuha in the next match.
Finally, I originally planned a Kuuko/Chinatsu headline ready to go, since I thought this would be the “match of the day,” but Yune happend. As it is, Kuuko won in a rather solid fashion as YuruYuri continues its unfortunate slide. Just tough matches all over for them. I would call it solid though, rather than spectacular, because less than 300 won’t cut it against the Saki mainstays.
Prediction: 2-1 (28-5)
Picks: 2-1 (Mami) (16-17)
Yayoi is the closer for Block C, and it wouldn’t be pretty for her foes. Again, like the Lotte match, the thing of interest here is how much Cure Peace will style.
The other two matches are of greater intrigue. I wouldn’t easily dismiss Maon here despite Tamayura’s struggles in Block C. Hayate’s support characters’ performance, after all, isn’t exactly spectacular either. The once-reliable Isumi floundered against Kanade. This should be worrying for Maria, who once was a notorious choker in the early stages of her career. As noted in the preview however, still counting on Hayate to muster enough votes to put Maria over, but barely.
Lastly, Asuha-Sherlock-Mayuri, as also posted in the preview, would have been amazing had it been a 2011 match. As it is, all have sunk low, but given Lotte’s impressive outing in her erstwhile match should give Asuha fans some confidence. That being said, I expect her to prevail, but not as easily as Lotte obviously did.
