This result is confirmed.
The first shock result of the tournament perhaps? That certainly seemed the case as the numbers were definitely in Mokkan’s favor going into the match – Maho gave Saki a hard time and Mokkan definitely did look like a bona fide star in the prelims. But didn’t matter in the end as Miki’s Saimoe debut resulted in success. Wouldn’t be Saimoe without upsets after all.
One could speculate that if it is just an elaborate ploy by Saki faction to give Koromo an easier match in Round Two; or that the im@s fanbase has finally decided to “show up.” The plot thickens…
The other results did end up as I expected them to be, with Remon showing that she packs some punch despite having to take the second prelims grinder.
Tsukasa shows off her veteran savvy – all three again, had a shot at taking this, but it may surprise some that it was Asia and not Ghutatan that ended up second. In the end, Amagami takes a bite of a victory that looked wanting based on their prelims performance this year.
Predictions: 2-1 (11-1 overall)
Picks: 3-0 (8-4 overall)
Yuka will try to avoid Saki’s fate and take one for Natsuiro Kiseki. And in this battle among second prelim qualifiers, she’s actually not the underdog. Saimoe does have its share of twists though, so she better show the same effort that Saki did – and then some more. I still have her tabbed as the winner here, in any case.
Hayate’s Isumi goes for win number ten, and maintain her pristine round one record. As the random number god may have it, she does have a shot of doing it – Mayo Chiki might still be shellshocked with Usami’s demise, but this is one match that bouncing back may be a hard time. Best of luck to Kanade anyway in her attempt to block Isumi’s shot at rare Saimoe glory.
Finally, not to be forgotten, one of the championship bets makes her debut today against Hayate’s Izumi. Akarin should be able to resist any kind of attempt by other factions to take her down early. In fact, if she does crash out today, I’d consider it as one of the greatest upsets in Saimoe history. So yeah, it’s not happening at least right now (or maybe even never). But hey, that’s why they play the game.
