This result is confirmed.

Apparently Teru did just what you’d expect her to do in an opening round. Observe. Yeah, right. But again, Poplar was the safe to choice to win this group to begin with.

With Reika and Miyuki stepping up for the Precure franchise in the recent sets, it was to be expected that Yayoi will follow suit. Still it’s amazing to see her in second place. Long-time Saimoe followers know that this is not something out of the ordinary.

Again, I expected Kanna to make it directly. Nonetheless. this is an impressive showing for her at third place.

Obviously this is an improvement for Teru, who used to just hang around in the second prelims during her past two years of Saimoe eligibility. Although we anticipated more from her.

Cecilia at top five is not surprising in this pool. Laura got booted out though and will have to try again.

For just an OVA appearance, ToraDora’s Ami did fine at sixth place.

I’m guilty for counting out ¬†Hare, who is tied for sixth place, which should portend good things for Inori in the following group.

Yachiyo tags along with Poplar to make it directly to the Main Draw.

Tsukasa got in there, but Kaoru (who was also left out in the first prelims last year) didn’t for Amagami.

Strange that Hayate’s Sakuya makes it without further hassle while the more powerful Izumi has to do it all over again. Okay, not really, because Izumi’s group was way tougher

Now for the much-anticipated debut of one of this year’s top contenders.

My initial list of characters expected to battle it out for the direct qualification:

  • Onjouji Toki¬†
  • Miyanaga Saki
  • Ikeda Kana
  • Araragi Karen (NiseMono)
  • Yuzuriha Inori (Guily Crown)
  • Rea (Sankarea)
  • Miyafuji Yoshika (Strike Witches)
  • Shinonono Houki (IS)
  • Goshiki Agiri (Kill Me Baby)
  • Asama Tomo (Horizon)
  • Tainaka Ritsu (K-On)
  • Mizuki Himeji (BakaTest)
  • Maekawa (DenpaOnna)
  • Henriette (Milky Holmes)
  • Saku (Milky Holmes)
  • Sana (MashiroIro)
  • Suzutsuki Kanade (MayoChiki)
  • Ikeda Chitose (Yuruyuri)
  • Kisaragi Chihaya (im@s)
  • Miura Azusa (im@s)
  • Tachibana Miya (Amagami)

That’s more than the twelve so we have to prune down that list.

I would be very surprised if Toki doesn’t finish first here. Although the last Saki anime poll had the titular character nabbing top honors, Toki definitely stole the show for Saki Achiga-hen.

There are a lot of Saki characters here by the way, making the likelihood of an all-Saki top three. In fact, that’s what I’m going for in fantasy today.

Saki and Kana have proven themselves to be formidable in Saimoe in the past. They may not have the track record of Nodoka, Koromo and even Mihoko, but block voting will push them over the top of this one.

Nisemono’s Karen will likely be the top wrench in the plans of an all-Saki top three. Maybe even Rea (seems farfetched) or even Inori? But considering that Hitagi couldn’t measure up to Shizu and Tacos the last time Nisemono and Saki faced off should give us a clue as to how this one will go.

The other six I expect to qualify directly ouf of this deep pool are Yoshika, Houki, Himeji, Agiri, Kanade and Chihaya. After the Iori’s stellar showing let’s see if Chihaya can follow suit.

TL;DR

1.) Toki 2.) Saki 3.) Kana 4.) Karen 5.) Rea 6.) Inori

7-12.) Houki / Chihaya / Yoshika / Agiri / Kanade / Mizuki

Lun’s take: 1.) Toki 2.) Saki 3.) Kana 4.) Karen 5.) Rea
