First of all, apologies for the delayed results, there were technical difficulties in the 2ch Saimoe management thread and they had to sort it out first before we can have the official results. In any case, I am hopeful that this is the last time that will happen.
As for the actual outcome…
I knew Chitanda had a lot of momentum going into the tournament, but I certainly didn’t expect it to be that massive enough to allow her to win the opening group. And yeah, she didn’t make a killing there (obviously just an exaggeration), but nonetheless she did well.
And it looks like Mei is just not another face in the crowd. I guess everything PA works touches is bound to do decent in Saimoe (see: HanaIro, True Tears).
Moving on, We were curious about a lot of things, especially as to where a good amount of factions stand coming into the tournament. This result gives us pretty much some answers.
im@s is in trouble come the preliminaries – Haruka losing out to WakanneP. And Ami didn’t even make it directly to the main draw. That spells doom for them.
Hayate also had an unsatisfactory showing, though this is much expected. Although Nagi might be able to change that sentiment in Group three. But remember, Izumi was capable of winning a prelim group… two years ago.
The Monogatari series looks more of the same as that in 2010, perhaps even worse. and that’s not a good sign.
I said yesterday that Saki would have a difficult time getting four in directly, and I only expected two, but didn’t know WakanneP was such a stud. And the Saki faction is shaping up to the juggernaut that majority thought it would be, with Shizu and Tacos providing the punch for this group.
KoreZon? Pretty much the same as last year, don’t expect too much from them in the Main Draw based from this performance.
Working seems to be good to go, but still weaker than they were two years ago.
I completely overlooked Nano, but I swear she was in my post draft, oh well.
Anyway, let’s move on to Group Two.
The main guns here are Saki’s Matsumi Yuu for obvious reasons, and Ika Musume, last year’s quarterfinalist. There’s also Kaminomi’s LC who was a block finalist from last year. And Nisemonogatari’s Tsukihi looks like a shoo-in here despite a rather underwhelming performance from Hitagi and Shinobu yesterday.
Also in consideration for direct qualification are Strike Witches Gertrud Barkhorn and Charlotte Yaeger.
As for new characters, KugiRie’s role in Kill Me Baby might be good enough to get in this group. I don’t know if Fear should be feared, and MGX’s Urabe is a mystery. Based on her impressive MST performance last year though (which is usally a good indicator of future AST performance – see Ika Musume), she’s capable of cutting through the competition.
Smile Precure’s Miyuki should be happy if she makes it. Same with IkokuMeiro’s Yune. And in case of doubt, count for Saki characters to make it – this time, Mako and Hatsuse.
Still I think this will be a battle between Yuu and Ika Musume. I’ll rely on the latter’s experience to be enough to get through this, but Saki as a faction might just be getting warmed up to a Matsumi Yuu win…
TL;DR 1.) Ika 2.) Yuu 3.) Tsukihi 4.) LC 5.) Urabe
6-12.) Yune / Unused Chara / Miyuki / Barkhorn / Shirley / Mako / Hatsuse
Lun’s take: 1.) Ika 2.) Yuu 3.) Tsukihi 4.) Elsie 5.) Barkhorn
P.S. re:tracker – ando does not set up the tracker during the preliminary rounds. If we have anything, we’ll let you know.
