<frustra> it will come later

1    710    Tomoe Mami @ Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica
2    612    Ika Musume @ Shinryaku! Ika Musume

A match that was seemingly close ended in Ika’s defeat, as the Madoka faction once again smashing their opponents during the final rush. Prior to that, Ika was actually closing up the gap after trailing Mami in the first hour, but her valiant attempts were crushed in the closing stages.

Mami also secured the highest vote tally so far in this year’s tournament, surpassing Mikoto’s tally of 696 in the first round. It remains to be seen if she’ll be able to upstage Madoka in the semi-finals, but it would be unwise to rule her out completely, considering the fact that Sayaka lost by a smaller margin than many had come to expect.

So Saimoe takes a one-day break. There’s been joy and disappointment over the past few days, so time for a breather. frustra will back tomorrow with more Saimoe goodies.

I’ve been noticing a lot of hate for Saimoe 2011 around the net and was wondering if people were really this butthurt back in 2008 when it was a Lucky Star final? I know intra-series matches aren’t as exciting, but everywhere I go people keep saying “Saimoe is shit now”

Honestly though, take a look at the characters that the PMMM group faced to get to where they are now.

    Madoka: fodder/fodder/fodder/Elsie/Sayaka (intra series)

    Sayaka: fodder/raildex/Char/Haqua/Madoka(intra series)

    Kyouko: Ritsu/fodder/fodder/Index/Ruri

    Mami: fodder/fodder/fodder/fodder/Ika

So with the exception of a few matches, there really hasn’t been that much competition for them. Madoka has basically had free passes throughout the tournament. As much as I like her, I don’t think she is deserving of the crown at all. She has only faced weak-low tier characters and those from her own series. If anything Kyouko, Mami and even Erica deserve the crown more than she does since they have struggled at times for their wins.

If anything, the result we see now is due to the lack of competition from other strong series and a highly organized PMMM fanbase. The 2ch Madoka fanbase is very passionate and co-operative. They congregate on IRC channels to discuss voting strategies which almost always allows their characters the victory

Also, want to thank you guys for the daily Saimoe coverage. I enjoy reading your posts and like the non-biased stance you take. Thumbs up from me 😀

yeah, about that, Mami won against Mikan, Nymph and Yoshika, which shouldn’t be considered fodder. (Much to my grief, I liked all three while I don’t particularly like Mami…). And you said she struggled more for her wins, which is also false since she was always raping everybody.

That aside, I’ll be rooting for Erica AND Kyouko till the end of the tournament. It’s sad that one of them has to go, but at least there’s a guaranteed spot for one of them in the Finals. I’m also not against a Madoka win, since it’s her time, the same way Sakura and Nanoha had theirs. Let the moest win.

The frustration is understandable, I guess. PMMM dominance, lack of faction wars, vote restrictions – they’re all contributing factors. People just wanted to see variety and more competition.

While they’ve unfortunately killed off competition, I think that you still have to give credit to the PMMM faction for their achievements. There were possible stumbling blocks, but they’ve managed to overcome those to make Saimoe history.

Also, the fact that people are frustrated means that they still take Saimoe seriously after all 🙂

I think the voting restrictions are the big reason for the hate. Frustrates a lot of people, and it makes campaigning pointless, so there’s really nothing to do except sit around complaining, or alternatively taunting your enemies.
