One for the Team

posters, previews, results

Qf3
1    371    Kaname Madoka @ Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica
2    327    Miki Sayaka @ Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica

***

This was the first time that Madoka did not post a vote percentage of 60% or higher in the Main Draw. Not that it was needed. Again, as expected, no eye-popping numbers here for Madoka and company. Nothing really much to say here, except that Sayaka might have fought harder than expected. Although the results somewhat raise a question on how Madoka will fare against Mami (although that always have been interesting query in the first place).

Already covered in my QF preview, I’m just gonna make a quick  take on Ika-Mami again: We might be looking at the last stand for the resistance here, but I don’t think it will be climactic as much as we would like it to be. Unless Ika manages to get a lot of sympathy votes here she’ll be calamari once the match day is over. This is the first time Ika will be heading into a Main Draw match as an underdog, and it will very may be the very last. As for Mami, she’ll be looking to make it the first time in Saimoe history that three characters will be represented by a single series in the semifinals. So yeah, more records for Madoka to break.

-LUN HIJACK-

Madoka recorded a win as expected, but just as I’d predicted, it was not a complete rout. Fair play to Sayaka for keeping the winning gap below the 50-vote margin.

Moving on, it’ll be Ika Musume taking on Mami. With no offence to Erica, Ika is the final obstacle left in the Puella Magis’ bid to win the crown. As such, those who are against a Madoka girl winning it will pour their votes into Ika. It might be a slight advantage that Ika’s going last too, as unsatisfied Kuroneko fans might just support the squid’s invasion plans.

However, Mami has been PMMM’s best performer throughout the main round, so it’ll definitely be an uphill task for Ika. There’s also hardly any chance of in-fighting in the Madoka camp, as they look forward to a friendly competition between Madoka and Mami in the semi-finals. While we talk about additional support that may assist Ika, there’s also the other possibility that neutral voters have already lost hope of a non-Madoka girl winning the tourney, especially since Ika has to take down as many as 3 Puella Magis in order to do so.

tl;dr Sadly for Ika, I think she won’t have enough ink to corrupt Mami’s soul gem.

  1. Figures that the only type of character that could beat a Puella Magi would be either a Level 5 Esper, an old inn keeper, or another Puella Magi.

Madoka or Mami for the win!
