Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai’s Gokou Ruri completed the Top Eight lineup of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011 after winning the Block H clincher against Infinite Stratos’ Shinonono Houki.

Kuroneko at first appeared to struggle against Houki, but after the fog of war was lifted it was revealed that the OreImo ace was leading from wire-to-wire, as she joined Astarotte Ygvar, Erica Hartmann, Kaname Madoka, Ika Musume, Miki Sayaka, Tomoe Mami and Sakura Kyouko as the eight remaining survivors.

1    446    Kuroneko (Gokou Ruri) @ Ore no Imouto
2    301    Shinonono Houki @ Infinite Stratos

Quarterfinal pairing to be revealed in an hour or two, for the meantime, here’s my yearly Top Eight poster:

EDIT: I’m posting the matchups here as they go along.

EDIT2: Draw completed, matchups determined. Other site updates to follow once I get my rest. o/

With the Block Finals coming to a close, here’s a review:

    In terms of votes this round;

Sayaka pulled in the most votes – perhaps due to the PMMM faction not wanting to to take the chance that their “weakest” PMMM could be taken out by Haqua.
Astarotte and Kuroneko, statistically, seem to be the largest threats to the PMMM 4 – it will be interesting to see how they fare should the face the stronger Puella Magi like Mami or Sayaka (statistically) in the QF. I think they stand a much better chance should they end up being paired with Kyouko or Erica. Of course, there is the potential that Madoka has not shown her “true potential” given that she hasn’t faced the tough opponents the other Puella magi have faced in their blocks.

Ika Musume also looks to be a strong contender against the 4, but she hasn’t pulled in the 400+ votes since Round 1 that the Puella Magi are very capable of receiving so I would be worried should she end up paired with Mami, Madoka or Sayaka.

It will be interesting to see if the Puella Magi be successful in securing a win this year – given that large numbers haven’t worked in favour for Saki or CLANNAD in the past. To be honest, I think Kuroneko nicely fits the bill of a character to win it all much like Taiga did in 2009.
Unfortunately the Group Finals spells the end of 5 factions – Hidan no Aria, TWOGK, Raildex, Hidamari Sketch and Infinite Stratos.
Disappointing for Infinite Stratos and Raildex both going in as strong contenders for the title – but saimoe is srs business. I don’t think that they were be much contenders next year (whether or not they get an OVA or new season with the likes of the Kugi Rie faction, Saki and Hayate no Gotoku all making a return next year)
Based on pre-Saimoe hype, I feel that Hidan no Aria, TWOGK and Hidamari Sketch have all had a fairly impressive run, taken advantage of a good draw for the latter two and winning matches that they weren’t favoured to take out by most. 🙂

My predictions based of QF draw:

Lotte/Erica – Should be an easy win for Lotte based upon Rie supporters. Erica was lucky to have made it to the QFs, but she did beat Kanade so she shouldn’t be underestimated here. 70%-30% for Lotte

Kyouko/Ruri – This will probably be the closest QF match out of all of them. Both characters have similar vote totals with Kyouko having slightly higher percentage wins. Since this is probably the best chance for a Puella Magi assasination, I’m leaning towards Ruri on this one. Also, whoever wins this match will probably make the finals. 55%-45% for Ruri

Madoka/Sayaka – Even though Sayaka has the highest total votes going into the QF, Madoka is viewed by many fans as the series main chararacter. I feel that she has the advantage here based upon popularity polls in Japan, but I could be wrong. 60%-40% for Madoka

Mami/Ika – Ugh. I’m really nervous about this one. Mami may be seen as the favorite to win the tournament, but Ika is no pushover either. Especially with her series going on and the fact that very few people hate her; well, look at her, how can you? Based on votes alone, Ika has only broken 400 votes once, meanwhile Mami has always been above this. Mami is my favorite character, so I would like to think she will win. 60%-40% for Mami

Best case scenario for me in the semis would be Erica/Kyouko and Sayaka/Mami, though I doubt this would happen.

Realistically I think semis would probably be Lotte/Ruri and Madoka/Mami.

Finals would then be Ruri/Mami, which would be quite an exciting match to watch for everyone. Go Mami-san!

That’s what it’s looking like unless Ika pulls out a win on Mami and then Madoka crushes her. Honestly though, I’m expecting a PMMM finish, just because it seems extremely likely unless some real trolling occurs.
