Book Burning

Sakura Kyouko formalized the advance of the Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica quartet in the Quarterfinals of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011 after a comprehensive beatdown of To Aru Majutsu no Index lone survivor Index in the Block G Finals.

Kyouko’s win is an unprecedented sixteenth straight win for the Puella Magi series, in addition to being only the second series in Saimoe history to send four representatives in the Quarterfinals.

1 –  428 – Sakura Kyouko @ Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica
2 – 250 – Index @ To Aru Majutsu no Index II

So it was yet another borefest as Kyouko easily overcame Index to make it four out of four for the Madoka contigent. Each of them has garnered more than 60% of the votes in this round, so that’s some curb-stomping there.

So after the run of predictable matches, we now reach the final match of the Block Finals, and it promises to be a tasty affair. Houki of Infinite Stratos versus Kuroneko of Oreimo. Kuroneko hasn’t had a real test thus far, unlike Houki who had to battle it out with Aria amidst faltering support for the IS girls in the previous round. Statistically, Houki has had slightly more votes than Kuroneko, though they were inflated due to her match-ups being on the same day as that of other high-profile characters. That said, it would be unwise to underestimate Houki. Also, this would be the match that Puella Magis might have an eye on, as it represents a good chance for them to take out perhaps the strongest non-Madoka girl left in the competition, so Kuroneko might find it a lil’ hard today. I think she’ll still win it, though.

Pick: Houki
Prediction: Kuroneko

It’d be funny if history repeated itself this year and no Puella Magi got to the final.
