Aim for the Top!

manga saimoe, posters, previews, results

Tomoe Mami overpowered an outmatched Hotogi Shirayuki (Hidan no Aria) to advance to the Quarterfinals of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011, and give Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica its fifteenth consecutive Main Draw win.

Mami became the third Puella Magi to advance in the Top Eight, while at the same time posting the sixth biggest vote percentage garnered in a Main Draw match (minimum of 500 votes cast).

Sakura Kyouko will go for the Block Finals sweep against Index in the next match.

Ff
1    427    Tomoe Mami @ Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica
2    182    Hotogi Shirayuki @ Hidan no Aria

Writeup to follow.

On queue:

Yup, no competition for Mami at all as she heads into the quarter finals. She overkills her opponent yet again to extend her run of garnering more than 60% of the votes since the main round began. That said, it’ll now be interesting to see how she fares against more difficult opponents in the upcoming round.

So today’s match-up is Index against Kyouko. Perhaps the trickiest match for the Puella Magis in this round, but they are in unstoppable form at the moment. Index has done well to reach this far, but undoubtedly her vote totals were boosted in her match-up against Kirino and in her 3rd round match-up which coincided with Kuroneko’s. Even if she were to garner 300+ votes again, Kyouko would garner even more, as shown in her match against Kokoro in the previous round. As for the Mikoto saga, well I doubt it’ll have much of an effect here. Kyouko to win this.

Pick: Kyouko
Prediction: Kyouko

  1. yay, Mami-san won!

Just wondering, what are you guys thoughts on Mami winning saimoe 2011? She seems to have the highest vote% up till now and the second highest vote totals. I guess it probably depends on the QF draw.

I can see her winning against Astarotte and Erica no problem.
Against Ika and Ruri, she might have closer matches. This would really depend on whether an anti-PMMM faction is still around
And from her own series, while she seems to be the strongest PMMM currently, I would think fans would push for Madoka to win in a Mami-Madoka match-up. She should win against Sayaka and Kyouko, I think…

    1. yep, i agree, she seems to be the favorite to win it all stats-wise. but then again, the deciding factor her would be the amount of anti-Madoka votes that Ika/Lotte/Kuroneko will gain.

    2. Unlike Kyouko and Sayaka, Mami has had it quite easy in the main round, so there’s a grey area there. However, I still believe she’s the strongest Puella Magi out there. At this moment, she’s my pick to win it all, but I would like to see how the draw pans out before making any bold predictions.

    3. Perhaps the most ideal situation for Mami (amusingly) is if Mami and Madoka ended up on different sides of the bracket, and an anti-PMMM faction backed Ika-Musume, Kuroneko or Astarotte should Madoka face one of the 3 in the QF or SF. And then, the PMMM faction rallying behind Mami to take out the title in the Finals.

I think that would give Mami the best opportunity to take out Saimoe 2011, because I don’t think stats would hold up very well in a Mami-Madoka intra-series matchup. I think the stats have shown Madoka being the weakest out of the PMMM 4 so far, but I think she would easily take out Sayaka or Kyouko should she face either in the Top 8.
