Writeup to follow shortly

After complaints of Round 3 being a borefest, it sparked to life on the last day as Houki sprung an upset over Aria. I wasn’t surprised by the victory itself, but rather the margin of victory as Houki won it by 100+ votes. Perhaps we’ve been underestimating her all along – while her matches have always coincided with high-profile ones, Houki’s victories have always been very convincing nevertheless. She now sets up an intriguing clash with Kuroneko in the block-finals as sole representatives of their respective series.

And with that, Round 3 comes to an end, and Saimoe goes on a one-day break. A good time to catch a breather before the storm kicks in.

Houki is IS’s hidden ace?!? And the last IS girl standing after they were culled off in the last 2 rounds. :O

Interesting results though: Group Finalists placing in their Prelim Groups

1st: Puella Magi 4, Elsie, Kuroneko, Lotte (7 out of top 16)
    2nd: Kanade, Ika Musume, Index
    3rd: Shirayuki, Biri-biri
    4th: Yuno, Erica
    6th: Haqua, Houki

    Series through to Group Finals:
    PMSM: 4
    TWGOK: 2
    Raildex: 2
    Ore no Imouto: 1
    Astarotte’s Toy: 1
    Hidan no Aria: 1
    Ika-Musuke: 1
    Angel Beats: 1
    Infinite Stratos: 1
    Hidamari Sketch: 1
    Strike Witches: 1

Interesting to note however; Inifinite Stratos and Hidan no Aria all lost their aces (arguably) so it will be interesting to see how they do in the Group Finals. Houki might not have much problems since she’s gone through after Charlotte fell, but Shirayuki is questionable now. Look at poor Denpa Onna after Erio lost out to Charlotte.

Round 3 sees the end of the road for Milky Holmes, Amagami SS, A-Channel, Gosick and Steins; Gate. Realistically it looks like the Biri-biri, Kanade, Madoka, Ika-Musume, Sayaka, Mami, Kyouko and Kuroneko will make the QF – but I would say that Kuroneko has the highest probability of being upset to the QF. (Houki’s recent numbers have been impressive – although this is probably attributed to be on the same days as the PMSM girls)

      Also wanted to add;
Only 5 out of the top 16 are actually veterans. We’re guaranteed that at least 4 of the QF will be newcomers this year. 🙂

Well, Shirayuki’s always going to be second favorite against Mami, so it probably won’t matter anyway.

And yeah, I’m also looking forward to the Houki-Kuroneko match-up, along with Index-Kyouko. 🙂
