Trude Awakening

Strike Witches’ Gertrud Barkhorn survived a desperate rally by Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko’s Mifune Ryuuko to power through Round Three of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011. Trude led the early hours of the match before Ryuuko narrowed the gap. The former tried putting the match away in the closing hours before the latter’s rally ultimately fell short. Trailing at third was Hanasaku Iroha’s Shijima Sui.

The Block A Round Two opener had Victorique de Blois (GOSICK) leading from the get-go, as Sora no Otoshimono’s Astraea lagged by 102 votes after the final tally. Seitokai Yakuindomo’s Hagimura Suzu was the three-ways third place finisher.

1 271 Victorique de Blois @ Gosick [50.56%]
2 169 Astraea @ Sora no Otoshimono series [31.53%]
3 96 Hagimura Suzu @ Seitokai Yakuindomo [17.91%]

1 233 Gertrud Barkhorn @ Strike Witches 2 [41.91%]
2 225 Mifune Ryuuko @ Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko [40.47%]
3 98 Shijima Sui @ Hanasaku Iroha [17.63%]

So my prediction was right as the Strike Witches survive their first of many tricky encounters for the round. Ryuushi did threaten to spoil the party, but the final rush simply wasn’t enough for her as Trude had built up momentum prior to that. Ryuushi’s defeat means that Maekawa is now Denpa’s only hope left – which is simply bad news, while Trude’s victory will perhaps surprise those who still have lingering doubts over the Witches’ capabilities. Truth to be told though, Denpa’s support has weakened since the day Erio lost to Charlotte.

So how far can the Witches go? They’re doing well in general, but can they match up to characters from top-tier factions? Watch out for Erica’s match-up against Rin – that would be the earliest match-up that can be used as a measure.

Meanwhile, it was cruise control for Victorique yet again. Being untroubled thus far in the main round, will she be able to handle a far tougher opposition in the form of BiriBiri in the probable Round 3 tie? Only time will tell.

So moving on to today’s match-ups, well, it’s a free win for BiriBiri. Perhaps the match-up between Tenshi, Ayatsuji and Merry could provide us with a bit more excitement, but I won’t count on it too much. Tenshi’s performance in Round 1 was an excellent one, thrashing Mugi by 149 votes – while Ayatsuji had a nervy moment against Sora. How about Merry? She’s not one who can attract the big numbers, so Tenshi should seize the win here.

Picks: BiriBiri, Tenshi
Prediction: BiriBiri, Tenshi

Picks: Hide, Merry
Prediction: BiriBiri, Tenshi

…I should have taken up that offer to change my Round 1 fantasy picks >.>. Oh laziness ftw! Although even then I forgot that Erio’s loss would have an impact until this morning when I saw the vote tracker and was wondering how Ryuushi was doing so poorly.

Heh, there’s still a long way to go though! And like I mentioned before, it’s not too late to make changes to your Block E-H team.
