Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica notched its third straight victory after losing its first two as Tomoe Mami crushed Shinryaku! Ika-Musume’s Nagatsuki Sanae and Sora no Woto’s Kannagi Noel. Mami now heads into Round Two to face To-Love-Ru’s Yuuki Mikan and Sora no Otoshimono’s Nymph.

Shinonome Nano rewarded Nichijou its second win as she eliminated To Aru Kagaku no Railgun’s Konori Mii and Softenni’s Elizabeth Warren.

In the final match, Hotogi Shirayuki upset Hanasaku Iroha’s Oshimizu Nako to finally put Hidan no Aria on the board. Houkago no Pleiades’ Subaru finished third to round up the match.

1 447 Tomoe Mami @ Puella Magi Madoka ☆ Magica
2 209 Nagatsuki Sanae @ Shinryaku! Ika Musume
3 64 Kan’nagi Noël @ So Ra No Wo To
1 343 Shinonome Nano @ Nichijou
2 232 konori Mii @ To Aru Kagaku no Railgun OVA / To Aru Majutsu no Index II
3 80 Elizabeth Warren @ Softenni
1 332 Hotogi Shirayuki @ Hidan no Aria
2 258 Oshimizu Nako @ Hanasaku Iroha
3 89 Subaru @ Houkago no Pleiades

And another prelim group winner bites the dust, which put me in 2-1 both in picks and predictions, putting me to 27-41-1 and 49-20 respectively, as Nako “unexpectedly” lost.

So, time to cue in the speculation machine: whodunnit? Cecilia might have brewed up something here as two of her greatest opposition in her side of the block has already been eliminated. This puts her in a great position to go all the way to the block finals, provided she can finish the job and destroy her less-heralded opponents.

Alternatively, one can pinpoint the blame to Mami, who put on quite a show today. It doesn’t breach the top ten all-time in vote%, but her crushing performance today is tops so far in Round One.

I don’t think Shirayuki is that strong, but then again, I’ve always tabbed Hidan no Aria as one of the dark horses in this tournament (mainly due to Aria herself) and with this win, it’s just another feather in their cap. It would be interesting to see if she can do it against Cecilia, and all will be revealed. Looking forward to Round Two already.

But before that, let’s finish off this block first:

Group 1 10th 122 22.39% Hiro @ Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ Tokubetsu-hen
Group 6 15th 115 14.50% Busujima Saeko @ Highschool of the Dead
Group 13 16th 111 14.14% Momo Velia Deviluke @ Motto To Love-Ru

>Hidamari again with one more W because of pairings like this one. The combo vote is just overkill Variance strikes again.

This might end up being a good one, but Hiro might take one for Hidamari yet again. I say that all three have a fair chance of winning though, but Hiro has been able to win matches like this before, and I don’t doubt her at this point.

Group 7 8th 151 22.60% Nori @ Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ Tokubetsu-hen
Group 2 10th 155 27.63% Shichijou Aria @ Seitokai Yakuindomo
Group 11 8th 142 22.05% Avril Bradley @ Gosick

>Okay, I actually had to look at my notes this one and find out that it’s pretty much a push between Avril and Nori. Hidamari has the tiebreaker though: combo!

Nope, that edge doesn’t translate to wins nowadays, so it’s another one of those this-can-go-any-way type of match. Nori has been here before

Despite having the highest vote percentage of the three, I don’t think Aria has what it takes to win this match and her numbers are probably bloated due to Group Two’s lack of depth in general. Then there’s Nori, the presumptive winner considering the combo with Hiro. But I don’t think it will work out that way and Avril will somehow find a way to make it two of two for Gosick. Not that they are being overlooked, but I have to respect this new series’ ability to win this.

TL;DR: Avril’s gonna take this.

Group 7 25th 74 11.08% Yuzuhara Konomi @ To Heart 2 Adnext
Group 1 20th 67 12.29% Hiiragi Noa @ MM!
Group 13 2nd 293 37.32% Cecilia Alcott @ Infinite Stratos

>All hail Britannia!

It would be stunning if Cecilia manages to choke it here after all the alleged hard work to take down Shana and Nako, but it’s very unlikely that she will.

Predictions: Hiro, Avril, Cecilia
Picks: Saeko, Nori, Cecilia

Fourth Manga Saimoe Results: Prelim Two, Group Two
Stealth Momo gives Saki second prelim group win.

Not much to say, except Saki gonna Saki. Haibara getting second past Kukuri, Haqua and the rest is a bit surprising though.

Manga Saimoe Main Draw starts on September 12. I’ll see what I can come up with during the break regarding this.

Yup, like I mentioned yesterday, which was further highlighted by frustra, Nako’s loss could probably be attributed to Cecilia backers. With no threat of HanaIro block voting in R2 now, Cecilia is certainly in a good position to make it to the block finals. However, Shirayuki must not be underestimated either since she is Hidan’s second most popular character after all.

So moving on to today’s matches. Hiro should still have enough in the tank to overcome Momo and Saeko who qualified via the second prelim round. Thanks to block voting, Nori should receive a boost, but will it be enough to overcome the two newcomers? I don’t think so. Between Avril and Aria, it’s quite hard to decide, but I’m going to go with Avril here. And Cecilia should win hers with ease. It’s too early for Cecilia to be sniped.

Picks: Momo, Cecilia
Prediction: Hiro, Avril, Cecilia

Is there gonna be a check in on how the prelim groups look after this block like how you did for the end of block B?

yep that’s the plan, especially now that there is (finally) a break after this match,
