Tachibana Isana ensured that both Yumekui Merry representatives are both through to the Second Round with a victory over Saimoe veteran Evangeline McDowell (Mahou Sensei Negima), who lost in the opening round just for the first time in her career. Satellizer el Bridget (Freezing) finished third.
Ritos Tortilla (Shukufuku no Campanella) used a big final hour rush to put away Mikogami Riko (Anyamal Tantei Kiruminzoo) and Senou Natsuru (Kampfer). Ritos’ win sets her up for a Round Two encounter against Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko’s Maekawa and Tantei Opera Milky Holmes’ Yuzurizaki Nero.
Zenigata Tsugiko gave Milky Holmes its second win, as she held off Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru’s Tatsuno Toshiko and Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai’s Ootori Naru.
1 158 Ritos Tortilla @ Shukufuku no Campanella
2 113 Mikogami Riko @ Anyamal Tantei Kiruminzoo
3 99 Senou Natsuru @ Kämpfer für die Liebe
1 199 Tachibana Isana @ Yumekui Merry
2 108 Evangeline A.K. McDowell @ Mahou Sensei Negima! Mou Hitotsu no Sekai
3 75 Satellizer el Bridget @ Freezing
1 143 Zenigata Tsugiko @ Tantei Opera Milky Holmes
2 122 Tatsuno Toshiko @ Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru
3 111 Ootori Naru @ Oretachi ni Tsubasa wa Nai
I guess the highlight of the day was that humongous vote spike in the final hour by Ritos to wrest the lead away from Riko. Other than, smooth sailing for the rest of the expected winners. Tsugiko once again showed that series mojo still matters.
I can’t really say if Isana looked good in her warmup match before Last Order, but man, that’s gonna be a good one.
3-0 (29-13) in predictions, 0-3 (13-29) in picks.
Well, this is just the calm before the storm, this final batch for Block D, Round One is where shit gets real.
Group 3 2nd 376 47.84% Ika Musume @ Shinryaku! Ika Musume 786
Group 12 5th 209 32.86% Lynette Bishop @ Strike Witches 2 636
Group 9 2nd 316 42.02% Akiyama Mio @ K-ON!! 752
>Remember when Mio was the favorite to win it all years ago? That seems like a distant past as we go into Block D’s main event. Mio might end up being used to take out the potentially-dangerous Ika Musume, so it’s gonna be a strategic fight. Ika is a fresh character that carries no baggage other than being a roadblock to Madoka’s master plan. She’s the obvious favorite to win this one, and there will be a lot of speculation if she gets upset here. It’s gonna be a fun match, and possibly the third best match of the opening round.
Yep, Main Event for Block D, at least for the first round, and it will all come down to whether or not tactics end up outweighing 2ch being tired of K-On after Azusa won it ages ago. I don’t see it coming, and again, Ika really has no flak going against her. Well, maybe, except one. The most cunning strategists in 2ch might want to take her out early if they see her as an outright threat to the Madokas and Kuronekos and Kirinos, and this is the best time to do so (like Mikoto against Homura). That’s stretching it, but given the way Saimoe has gone down so far, it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
In the end, I think Ika will still invade this Block. This is a gargantuan test though, and she might need to count on the anti-K-On in the end.
Or of course, she might end up destroying Mio instead, and render all this ‘speculah’ moot. Take your pick.
Group 8 9th 199 24.36% Fukiyose Seiri @ To Aru Majutsu no Index II
Group 9 3rd 230 30.59% Takanashi Nao @ Onii-chan no Koto nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!!
Group 5 19th 103 12.17% Elis @ Asobi ni Iku yo!
>Ah, Nao’s numbers are gonna be inflated because of the accompanying match. She’s Ochinko’s ace, and like most aces do, they take out support characters. Raildex’s Fukiyose is no exception to that common trend.
We’ve seen combo votes work before, and we’ve seen them fail. I think it’s gonna end up in the latter, at least for this match. I’m thinking this is gonna be a close one.
Group 9 10th 149 19.81% Musujime Awaki @ To Aru Majutsu no Index II
Group 6 13th 155 19.55% Kanzaki Kaori @ To Aru Majutsu no Index II
Group 10 4th 238 28.85% Yuno @ Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ Tokubetsu-hen
>Okay, three Raildex charas in the same day boosts Fukiyose’s chances a bit (still not enough), but that definitely is irrelevant in a split match for Kaori and Awaki against perennial contender Yuno. There is gonna be a wiiiiiiiide margin for this one.
Yuno’s gonna do what she’s good at: winning the matches she should win, and lose to the hotter ones. She may be way weaker now compared to the 2007 heydays, but she should still easily clinch this, and the split votes just end her cause.
Predictions: Ika Musume, Nao, Yuno
Picks: Ika Musume, Eris, Yuno
Manga Saimoe went as expected except Shirley caught me off-guard. But Sakura’s just too good. She’s a legend, after all. Break time for today in MST.
And I will end my post with the usual.

Ika Musume vs Mio: Like Block C, the biggest Round 1 match-up for Block D is left on the last day. It involves yet another K-ON! girl in the form of Mio, who will have to face the terror of Ika’s tentacles. Well, there’s talks about Mio sniping Ika here, but I won’t read much into it. After all, there are no major favorites in this block, so there’s definitely less strategic voting going on.
Nao vs Seiri: There’s block voting for Raildex- the last time that happened, Itsuwa benefited greatly from combo votes with Mikoto. However, it won’t be the same here: minor characters in Raildex are unable to perform well in general, so expect Seiri to have a hard time against Nao who is the main girl of her show. The imouto factor will also work in Nao’s favour.
Yuno: She’ll win in style, no doubts about that.
Picks: Ika Musume, Kaori
Prediction: Ika Musume, Nao, Yuno
