Victory Road

previews, results

Gosick’s Victorique de Blois provided one of the biggest thrashings of the early stages of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011, routing A-Channel’s Nagi and Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai’s Kousaka Chihiro to progress to the Second Round. Victorique’s win forges a matchup among her, Seitokai Yakuindomo’s Hagimura Suzu and Sora no Otoshimono’s Astraea.

The A07 match saw Tachibana Miya (Amagami SS) also destroying her opponents Carina Verritti (Shukufuku no Campanella) and Ume (Hidamari Sketch).

The last match of the day had A-Channel’s Tooru surviving a tough match against Dog Days’ Ricotta Elmar and Minna Dietlinde Wilcke.

So yeah, the easiest day so far to predict comes to an end, and picks-wise, it was a decent day as well. The only surprise for me this far is how tight the Tooru-Ricotta match ended up being, and Minna actually was the one thrown in the sidelines.

Other observations:

  • Dog Days might have enough a fight after all. Let’s see if this shall end up inspiring Millhiore over a tougher matchup (Nymph).
  • Victorique is gonna be force to be reckoned with. She’ shaping up to be one of the favorites to win the Block if things continue as they are.
  • If Kurisu does end up advancing as expected, she’s gonna face a tougher Amagami in Miya. This might be one  of the overlooked matches  of the Second Round. Prepare your bodies, folks. The red flag though is that Miya got these numbers because again, she was facing two 2nd Prelim’ers
Predictions: 3-0 (5-4)
Picks:2-1 (3-6)

On deck:

A04
Group 16    14th    128    16.18%    Karina Lyle (Blue Rose) @ Tiger & Bunny
Group 3    20th    72    9.16%    Toudou Kasane @ Hoshizora he Kakaru Hashi
Group 14    7th    120    21.82%    Chaos @ Sora no Otoshimono series

>Tricky match, though I think it would have been trickier if there was a stronger HoshiKaka character in there. I’m thinking Karina wins this one out of instinct. Though Chaos qualified directly, it was by virtue of one of the weaker groups out there. Meanwhile, Karina got stuck in Madoka’s group which is one of the harder ones to get in. Close match, but Karina will ice it.

Well, after seeing Astraea’s inspiring run, I’m kinda skeptical about betting on Blue Rose now. But for once I’m gonna gamble and stick with it. Blue Rose it is.

A08
Group 8    11th    181    22.15%    Zakuro @ Otome Youkai Zakuro
Group 6    2nd    355    44.77%    Makise Kurisu @ Steins;Gate
Group 4    6th    212    28.53%    Nanasaki Ai @ Amagami SS

>If Kurisu plans to go all the way, then her Block A upset campaign begins here. Just take care of business. She gets a not-so-easy match, but if beating last year’s superstars Azusa and Saten in the prelims doesn’t inspire confidence, then nothing else will.

The confidence kind  of dipped a little with the loss of Mayuri giving some doubts to Steins;Gate’s actual strength, but it will be interesting to see where Kurisu stands in the power hierarchy right now. Lotte’s win in her easier match today will distort some numbers, but I still have a feeling that matchup is gonna happen, eventually.

A012
Group 15    14th    147    20.45%    Suzuki Jun @ K-ON!!
Group 16    11th    167    21.11%    Yukimura Chizuru @ Hakuouki Hekketsuroku
Group 9    1st    340    45.21%    Astarotte Ygvar (Lotte) @ Astarotte no Omocha!

>Kurisu’s potential block semis opponent gets a gimme. Astarotte’s just gonna toy with these girls.

Toy Story Two? Toy Story Two.

TL;DR:
Predictions: Karina, Kurisu, Astarotte
Picks: Karina, Kurisu, Jun

Moving on to Lun…

Pretty straightforward results for today. If there’s a talking point, then it was the fact that Ricotta gave Tooru a run for her money, though the A-Chan ace was eventually able to pull through. She, however, will need to up her game as she’ll most likely face a KugiRie-powered Astarotte in the second round.

Well, moving on to the next series of match-ups. Firstly, the low-profile one – Sora No Otoshimono is no push-over as shown by Delta’s victory over Cordelia two days ago, and Chaos does have some seiyuu mojo to boot too. Perhaps this could be the edge Chaos needs to overcome Karina of TaigaBun, since both parties did not do particularly well in the prelims. My gut feeling has Karina winning this, but I’m gonna go for logic here.

Next, we have two of the strongest Group A contestants featuring in separate matches. Lotte should have an easy time against her opponents, but it could be a slightly tricky affair for Kurisu as there could be strategic voting taking place involving Ai. However, I feel that it’s not ZA ZOMBIE’s time to falter yet – Lotte fans, for one, wouldn’t want an early backlash as the loli succubus faces Tooru next.

Picks: Chaos, Kurisu, Astarotte
Prediction: Chaos, Kurisu, Astarotte
