Kami Nomi zo Shiru Sekai’s Elysia de Lute Ima easily advanced to the Main Draw of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011, routing the rest of her opponents in Group Fourteen of the First Preliminary Round. At distant second was Denpa Onna to Seishun no Otoko’s Maekawa, and Nichijou’s Sakurai, who garnered third place. Ricotta Elmar (Dog Days) placed fourth, and Hanasaku Iroha’s Wajima Tomoe finished fifth.
Aizawa Chizuru (Shinryaku! Ika Musume) ended up in sixth place, with Chaos (Sora no Otoshimono) trailing at seventh. Kampfer’s Kondou Mikoto held ground at eighth, while Senou Natsuru, also from Kampfer, and Toudou Tsumugi, representing Hoshizora he Kakaru Hashi, were tied for ninth place. Q (C), Rebecca Anderson (Dog Days) and Hatori Kanon (Anyamal Tantei Kiruminzoo) filled in the last three slots, with the latter two tied for twelfth.

Well yeah, that was a total Elysia/Elsie thrashing. More than 50% of the voters actually ended up voting for her, 51.82% to be exact. That’s the third highest in terms of percentage, just behind Kuroneko and Homura’s romp. But then again, much is to be desired as to the strength of this group as a whole so the only thing I can infer from this is that Elsie is (obviously) way above the level of her foes in this round, and that it was a business-like approach. Just do the job, just like Char did two groups before.
Considering that this group is a total mess, my prediction rate ended up a mess as well. It doesn’t help that I overlooked (and yeah underestimated) Sakurai-sensei. Despite thirteen making it I wound up 9 correct (136-32). It can’t be helped, but it’s all fun. Again, Sakurai and Misato (who was one vote shy, als from Nichijou) and Kondou Mikoto were the obvious oversights. Moving along, enough blabber about this group, let’s proceed to the next one.
Group 15: The penultimate group leading to the grand finale will probably end up with a duel for first place between Tooru (A Channel) and Laura (Infinite Stratos). I’m not sure if Tooru’s the real A Channel ace, but odds are she is. And if she is, then Laura will have a real challenge here. In fact I see Tooru prevailing here. The dark horse for winning this group? Rose from Dragon Crisis. Lead character powered by the one and only Kugimiya Rie, it would be negligence to count her out.
Also in play for this group are the following: Yukikaze (Dog Days) despite the obvious decline since Millhiore’s win in the very first prelim group. Kanon (Kaminomi) is definitely in, same with Nano (Nichijou) and Minna (Strike Witches). Yumekui Merry might not be the dark horse that I once thought it was, but odds are high Isana will make the initial cut. As far as IS support characters go, Tabane is definitely up there so she is favored to advance directly as well.
Three more, and I’m placing my bets on the following: Ookami Ryouko (despite the show’s dismal Saimoe showing so far), Salsa (Shukufuku no Campanella), since Ritos made it directly, and Hitomi (Madoka) simply because of all that mojo the show currently has.
Other outside bets in consideration: Futaba Kon (SoreMachi), Celty (DRRR), Ranka (Macross), Shiro (Fortune Arterial), Jun (K-On), Rio (Rainbow Gate).
That’s it for me for this group. Tomorrow: Final Group before FodderBowl: Battle royale as top-tiered factions collide.
SHOUBOUSHA!: With Shana blazing the arena yesterday, Elsie arrives today in a fire truck to douse those flames and take top spot today! Okay, I really have nothing much to comment over here. Maekawa finishes second as expected, rounding off a good performance for the main Denpa girls in the prelims. If there’s anything to be surprised about for today, I didn’t expect Nichijou’s Sakurai-sensei to finish third. Chaos proves to be a low-tier character for Sora no Oto; I was hoping that she’ll make a similar impact as Bwaka Delta, but it seems that I’m wrong.
ON THE NEXT GROUP: After some zzzzfest in which top spot has been decided even before the matches had started, we finally some competition today (or at least I hope to see one). A-Channel’s ace Tooru takes on Laura of Infinite Stratos, who is the 4th most popular girl in IS. Other characters vying for top spot despite weak performances by their series so far include Yukikaze from Dog Days and Isana from Yumekui Merry, both second in terms of popularity in their respective series. You can also count Rose from Dragon Crisis in, as she will be powered by KugiRie fans, and Kanon of KamiNomi, though it’ll be tough for her due to the lack of series support. There’s Hitomi from Madoka too but I don’t think she’ll garner that much support; probably just around the same level as Charlotte. With the IS girls not convincing the critics so far, Laura needs to prove a point here, but I suspect she’ll just fall short against Tooru.
Top 3 Prediction: Tooru, Laura, Yukikaze
