Saimoe Reporter takes a break for this post…
Charlotte Dunois cruised to an easy Group Twelve victory in Anime Saimoe Tournament 2011 First Preliminary Round to hand Infinite Stratos its first prelim victory. Finishing second was Touhara Asura from Astarotte no Omocha, and third, Hotogi Shirayuki from Hidan no Aria. Completing the top five were Strike Witches tandem of Francesca Lucchini and Lynette Bishop respectively.

Sorry for the late post, I was waiting for frustra’s input, but I guess he needs more rest since he’s having a flu right now.
CHAR CHAR CHAR: Charlotte eased her way to the next round, finishing ahead of second-placed Asuha by 60 votes. Of course, there will be comparisons with Kuroneko who won by 99 votes and Homura who beasted Ika Musume by 57 votes, but it’s still early days and winning by sixty is a good result.
LOLI POWER: I must say that I’m suprised with Asuha’s performance; I expected Lotte to be the only outstanding contender from this series, thanks to KugiRie support and her tsun antics, but I guess Asuha’s cheerful and bright demeanour won over some hearts too. Meanwhile, Lucchini and Lynette were able to finish 4th and 5th respectively, completing a decent showing for the SW girls within 2 days. Arsene finishing 11th was what I expected – she’s not that popular as Kokoro and the main girls of MH.
ON THE NEXT GROUP: The IS duo of Cecilia and Rin will be hoping to take down Shana in order to secure top spot. Outside bets include Nymph of Sora no Otoshimono, the ace of her series, Nero of Milky Holmes, Morishima Haruka of Amagami SS and Eclair of Dog Days, a series that hasn’t made much waves since Milhiorre’s victory back in Group 1. The showdown will probably boil down to Cecilia and Shana, and while newcomers have been triumphant in their battles with the veterans so far, Shana is a different beast altogether and asking Cecilia to take her down will be a task too great for her, at least for now. However, I will still be interested to see the margin of victory to gauge the strength of the IS girls.
Top 3 Prediction: Shana, Cecilia, Rin

Hm, I’m still a bit skeptical although Char actually ended up winning by 60 votes which is more or less on par with what I initially expected. Is that good enough to beat Kuroneko and the higher-tiered Madoka characters? Not at this point. Although to be fair, this is a much more competitive group than what Kuroneko had. I’m gonna give her a B for now, at least for getting the job done and winning the group without much fuss.
Astarotte no Omocha continues to impress. Hidan no Aria was expectedly in the top three, but I overestimated Henriette from Milky Holmes. She made it anyway. In fact, it was perfect prediction from here as I called correctly the 12 that will make it. Impressed.jpg. We 118-26 now.
Let’s proceed to an even more interesting group: Group 13.
As I mentioned yesterday, this is the most realistic chance for the veterans to derail a newcomer sweep. And how fitting it would be that their fate would lie in the hands of the ultimate Saimoe Prelims competitor: Shana. She’s unbeaten in all all her prelim groups from 2006 onwards, which is fascinating to this date. Lucky for her, the odds are in her favor in this one: no real superstar name stands out in the mold of the Mikotos, Homuras and Kuronekos of the Saimoe landscape, though there are still a good amount of popular names.
Figuring to challenge Shana are IS’ combo of Cecilia and Huang Lingyin who are not exactly the aces of their show, but still are strong enough to pose some challenge. Then speaking of aces, Amagami’s, SYD’s, SnO’s, and Dog Days’ aces are all here apparently. So consider Haruka, Suzu, Nymph and and Eclair as locks. I frankly don’t see them beating Shana though in a group or one or one match. Let’s just say they’ll pose some sort of a threat, but that’s it.
As for the last few qualifiers, I can see Milky Holmes’ Nero and Ika-Musume’s Eiko making the cut, simply for series mojo alone. That makes nine.
Look for Hyouka (Raildex), Nessa (Fractale), Yuuko (BakaTest), Momo (TLR), Natsume (Hidamari), Kotomi (SYD), Anri (DRRR), Nanami (Katanagatari), Jeanne D’Arc (Hidan no Aria), Akerin (Sengoku Otome), Tokugawa (Samurai Girls), Akira (Yosuga no Sora), and Ui (Hoshikaka) to battle for the last three places. So yeah, really tough group today, expect inflated voting numbers.
Personally, going for Ui, Hyouka and Kotomi to make the last three slots.
As for who wins, nobody’s stopping Shana for now. If this was MadoMagi/Ika-Musume/Oreimo duo I would have given it a long thought, but no go. Shana to win, IS girls second and third. Something’s got to give: Shana’s unbeaten streak or the newcomers’ sweep. On paper, it’s the latter that must give way.
TL;DR version: Shana wins lol.
Coming up next group: zzzzzzz. Alternatively, the perfect display of lolrandomdraw.
