Kuroneko gives OreImo second win with Group Eleven whitewash. Others who made it to the main round include the duo pair of Yoshika and Mio (Strike Witches), Ayatsuji (Amagami SS) and Miyako (Hidamari Sketch), among others.

Well, what can I say? It was a one-sided affair as Kuroneko was able to top the group with a handsome margin, 99 votes ahead of Yoshika. The latter’s second-placed finish means that SW aces are still able to get decent results out. Ayatsuji was able to edge Miyako out for third spot as the slump continues for veteran series, while Ai Haibara also gets her usual pass into the main round. I was somewhat disappointed by Chihiro’s performance, but I guess TWGOK ain’t gonna cut it big when it comes to anime Saimoe.
Moving on to the next group, we finally get to see the main IS girls in action, with their ace Charlotte looking to make a statement of intent. Her main opponents will be Shirayuki of Hidan no Aria, who will be hoping to emulate Aria’s good performance last time out. Outside bets include Henriette/Arsene of Milky Holmes, though she isn’t the most popular Milky Holmes girl around (probably behind Kokoro and the main four), and Lucchini of Strike Witches, who will receive support from her fellow comrade Lynette.
Other notable characters include Asuha from Lotte, Minami from BakaTest and Shiori from TWGOK, but it’s unlikely they’ll be able to challenge for top spot since they suffer from weak series support.
There’s been some doubt as to whether IS will be a major force in this year’s Saimoe after dismal performances from their side characters in the prelim groups thus far, but I expect those doubts to be cleared up with a comprehensive Charlotte victory.
Top 3 Prediction: Charlotte, Shirayuki, Lucchini
frustra’s [[recap] and preview:
So close, Minami, but not quite. Totally overlooked Kanako there, should have known better. Same with overestimating the Yosuga no Sora girls. Apparently that show is an army of one. Other than those, pretty much expected Kuroneko raepfest. In fact Kuroneko outdid Madoka in terms of percentage of votes cast for her, by a little bit. Obviously this group did not have enough competition to elicit a higher vote count like Homura did in Group Three, but still, it’s convincing enough. So 9-3 in predictions, 106-26 and counting. So moving on to the next one…
After eleven groups, we finally get a glimpse of Infinite Stratos. They debut with their ace, Charlotte Dunois, and it’s no giveaway unlike Kuroneko’s group. Char is gonna be tested with a feisty Hidan no Aria faction represented by Shirayuki (and Reki). Also challenging her will be Arsene/Henriette from Milky Holmes, which already has a prelim win. Char, Shirayuki and Arsene are your projected one-two-three finishers here.
I think this is a pretty crucial juncture in Saimoe although it’s stil lolprelims, Char needs to win this convincingly in order to establish IS as something to be taken seriously in this year’s tourney. Madoka and Oreimo have taken care of business, time for the supposed third part of the triumvirate to meet the challenge.
Also expected to lock in their place in the main event are Minami (BakaTest), the aforementioned Reki, Lynette and Lucchini (Strike Witches), Asuha (Astarotte no Omocha) and Shiori (Kaminomi).
Nine in place, the final three slots will be tightly contested among the duos of Mai and Yuuko (Nichijou), sisters Hitoha and Mitsuba (Mitsudomoe), veterans Sawako (Kimi ni Todoke) and Alicia (Valkyria), Gotonda Ran (also from IS), Griselda (Astarotte) and Mii Konori (Raildex). In the end I’m going for Hitoha, and the Nichijou duo.
TL;DR version: Char should win this, but she needs to win good. Arsene and Shirayuki to battle for second place. Coming up next: The final hurdle facing the newcomers’ in their quest for prelims “sweep”
