Veteran Power

ISML

The Top 8 of ISML 2010 (Akiyama Mio, Misaka Mikoto, Shana, Nakano Azusa, Katsura Hinagiku, Aisaka Taiga, Nagato Yuki, and Suzumiya Haruhi) sweeps the first 8 preliminary groups in Prelims I-7. All winners of this round had over 2000 vote differential over the 2nd place contestant. The bottom half of the Top 16 will be challenged in the next round by some of the strongest newcomers the last few seasons had to offer.

In a way, this round was sort of predictable, since the Phase I groupings were done purposely so that the Top 8 newcomers would meet the Bottom 8 of DE last year. But we still have some interesting results in the other matches.

First of all, Nozomi how could you fail me? After losing by only 22 to Ika-Musume, she simply proceeds to losing by 9 to Kurimu. I like Ika and Kurimu, but Nozomi came 33 votes short of getting 4 huge points. That’s pretty sad.

Speaking of close matches, Kuroko lost to Ui and Yami not by much also, so she may make it along with Nozomi in Phase III.

Charlotte and Last Order got the 4th and 5th highest votes, which is pretty impressive even though their opponents weren’t that hard. For Last Order to get that many votes as someone who has been a minor character all along is very impressive.

Amano Touko grabbed 4 points with an unexpected win, and Lucy Heartfilia also grabbed 4 over Inami. Working! is turning out to be really weak if even Fairy Tail beats it.

And we’ll end with a note that Ritsu got 3rd place in against a still hot Mikoto and a season 2 powered up Ikaros. So Ritsu/Tsumugi/Ui will probably not be strong enough to steal a spot in this year’s Top 16.

  1. In short, we have no official source of Iwasawa’s first name. The source provided for the Japanese Wiki is from a fan magazine of sorts. So we decided to use what was said in the anime, which SOUNDS like Asami. The only reason Asami could be wrong is if Naoi said a very silent “m” or he’s trolling us.
