Paper beats Scissors

Seitokai no Ichizon’s Shiina Mafuyu continued her terrific Anime Saimoe Tournament 2010 campaign as she defeated Bakemonogatari’s Senjougahara Hitagi to advance to the Quarterfinals. Mafuyu survived a late push from Hitagi to ensure victory in the closest match of the Block Finals by far. Finishing third was Angel Beats!’ Yui.

K-On’s Akiyama Mio and Nakano Azusa, and To Aru Kagaku no Railgun’s Misaka Mikoto is up next as the penultimate match of the Third Round.

Block F Final
1st 701 votes | Shiina Mafuyu @ Seitokai no Ichizon
2nd 666 votes | Senjougahara Hitagi @ Bakemonogatari
3rd 143 votes | Yui @ Angel Beats!

That’s it. Mafuyu really does not love me ;_;

Seriously though, I guess you can say I’m a believer. In her strength yeah, but in her moe, not really. So Hitagi goes out with >666 votes. Expected her to do better actually, but looks like this is the limit to Bakemonogatari’s strength. In any case I called Seitokai as Dark Horse tier back then and looks like Mafuyu is up to the task. Also Yui got bus’d. Surprised that somebody of Yui’s caliber got shafted this badly, so it was kind off disappointing. Much like how the 3-way block final format turned out to be (virtual one-on-one in all actuality) but I’ll rant out about that in my end of tournament evaluation. In any case we’re done here, disappointed that Hitagi lost, but eh, Yamada winning I guess more than made up for it already.

So let’s get  to the real business. The match might have started already as of this writing, though prior to the match I have already made up my mind: kick logic to the curb and just go Azusa all the way, predictions and picks. I still stand by this.

I’m under the belief that Azusa is the strongest character remaining character here in terms of raw power. I don’t know if 2ch sees it this way too, but if they do, then the enterprising tacticians might end up siding with Mikoto to pick off the more dangerous foe. Especially now that Mikoto actually looked vurnerable for once in her previous match. So uh, logically speaking Mikoto should take this, and this is not taking split votes into account, which should give Mikoto even more of an edge.

But as I said I feel gotta do it Gurren Lagann style since Saimoe has been fucking up with my predictions and stuff like that. So yeah, I’m just gonna believe that Azusa would be able to pull it off. Of course, turning that into reality is an entirely different matter. We’re gonna find that out in less than 20 hours as of this writing.

    looks like your bold bet of a Seitokai girl making the quarter finals was right

      that’s the only other one i got right though, aside from Working (albeit different girl Top 8’d)

      i was completely wrong on my early calls on Bakemonogatari and Angel Beats, as well as my assessment of Shana, Saki and Hayate.

      lol this Saimoe has been crazy so far.

      if you meant why the posts are not up as quickly as they used to, it’s because lol, i don’t feel like rushing it, among other things. i should get back to faster posting pace once we get to the quarterfinals and beyond, hopefully.
