Pink was the color of the day in the closing matches of Blocks E and F as Yui (Angel Beats!) and Tsukuyomi Komoe (To Aru Kagaku no Railgun) trounced their respective opponents to advance the Block Finals of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2010.
Yui doubled up on her opponents Evangeline McDowell (Mahou Sensei Negima!) and Shimada Hazuki (Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu) to set up a tantalizing encounter with Shiina Mafuyu (Seitokai no Ichizon) and Senjougahara Hitagi (Bakemonogatari). On the other hand Komoe will next battle with Yamada Aoi (Working!!) and Tachibana Kanade (Angel Beats!).

Nothing to see, moving along. At least both my picks finished second, if that’ any consolation. As for the numbers themselves, they’re expected too. Yui still racking up 355 votes despite a ho-hum match pretty much indicates she’s the real deal. That matchup with Hitagi and Mafuyu is gonna be incredible. I can’t tell who can win, that’s gonna require much more number crunching, and for for another day. As for Komoe, the series mojo edge was more enough to give her the win.
Sad that Eva is the Haibara Ai for Round 2 (iirc 4 round two appearances and counting, all ending with losses). But eh, it can’t be helped. As to Kana, well, strong VA mojo in weak (Saimoe-wise) series.
Time for Blocks G and H. (Great matches we have today, and tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, lol)
Railgun has a combo going here, and it’s not gonna be pretty for Miyako. Mikoto has not racked up monster numbers (yet) because she did not have to. Her prelim group and round 1 group are pretty much cakewalks, and the same situation presents itself here. Miyako might be her toughest match yet, but she’s got an assist for Saten to pretty much snuff out any chances of an upset. Heck, Biribiri doesnt even need the combo votes. But yeah, it can’t be helped. Pity, because Miyako is a top ten-fifteen character to me. Miyako’s only chance is a miracle, seriously.
This one will be much closer, but only because Mugi is much stronger than last year. But that still doesn’t change the fact that she is most likely gonna lose. Saten has been putting up superb stats, have to do with the groupings too, but man, those numbers are staggering. She will need to those to hold off Mugi, and hold off she will. She even has Biribiri assist as an insurance.
That all said, these two matchups are still intriguing to follow for me because I want to see how 2ch respond to Railgun as a threat. Numbers to look out for are the margin of victory and the early voting trends. Inevitably the combo will prevail, but yeah, gotta see how they do it.
As for my picks, Saten (my second favorite Raildex character, only behind to WIndex) and of course the adorable Miyako (top 10-15 character). I pray for a miracle…
