Amae Koromo from Saki took care of business Friday as she defeated Mayoi Neko Overrun’s Kiriya Nozomi to advance to the Second Round of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2010. Koromo’s victory gave Saki a much-needed victory after two consecutive losses by Sawamura Tomoki and Kajiki Yumi. Finishing at third was Taishou Yakyuu Musume’s Suzukawa Koume, followed by Nyan Koi’s Kirishima Akari.
Hayate no Gotoku also scored their third victory in the first round as Maria prevailed over Aizawa Sakuya in a match featuring two characters from the same series. Kanamemo’s Kujiin Mika ended up in third place, and Geijutsuka Art Design Class’ Oomichi Miyabi, fourth.

Solid showing by Koromo, but will it be enough to beat Kuroko in the next round? At least for now she accomplished the critical first step in her quest for a second consecutive trip to the quarterfinals, and I only see Kuroko and Kurimu as the two remaining threats against the feat. Gotta commend Nozomi for her effort to make the fight close, but in the end, Koromo is just on another level. Pity that Koume couldn’t make it a three-way fight, but >saimoe. It just had to happen, and I lost one of my top ten characters for Saimoe 2010 in the process.
On the other hand, superb job by Maria, taking care of business as well. Hayate as a faction accounted for a lion’s share of the votes, and they didn’t even allow Mika to see daylight. All the doors to a possibility of an upset were quickly shut off, just like an elite faction should. Again, sad for Sakuya because in an average match she wouldn’t lose in the first round, and for Kyoujyu for being sandwiched against the powerhouses.
So at the end, improved to 23-3 in predictions, and 11-15 in picks. Today’s the tricky one though. Let’s move on.
Predictable match out of the way first. Railgun “debuts” in grand fashion today, strutting their Judgment combo (i know they debuted with Kiyama Harumi, but you know the drill). And the poor victims are Tsuruya, Kijima Saki and Keena. Even without the Uiharu assist Kuroko should be able to handle this, but now it just becomes overkill. So Kuroko will really look good coming to her match against Koromo, so it will be interesting how it will turn out later. So Kuroko to style against Prelim1 characters today.
Now let’s get to the main event: I have no idea who will win this match, but Uiharu has the edge due to the Judgment combo so I’m going the safe route and predict her. My gut feel makes me want to go for Izumi, and I wouldn’t be surprised if she did end up winning. In my opinion Hayate has to go all out here to make Izumi win, so they have a greater chance of winning this block. And Izumi is capable, since she was defeated by Koromo by a measly two votes in the first round last year. Let’s see if she can reverse last year’s misfortune. As for Hisa, it’s gonna be tough. I’m not ruling her out entirely, and in fact, I’m rooting for her, but somehow I don’t think she’ll win this. Happy to proven wrong though.
So in a nutshell – predictions: Uiharu-Kuroko, picks: Hisa-Kuroko. 8 prelim1 q’ers, and I’m expecting this match to break this year’s turnout record so far. So yeah, this will end up likely to have more votes than the Yuri-Shana battle. It’s going to be a great one.
