On the Money

Hayate no Gotoku!’s Sanzen’in Nagi, 2007 finalist, survived an early jam against Hakuouki’s Yukimura Chizuru, and eventually doubled the rest of the opponent’s match totals to finish with an easy victory as the ninth day of Anime Saimoe Tournament 2010 Main Draw concluded Friday. Finishing at third was Working!!’s Takanashi Nazuna, followed by Ookami Kakushi’s Kuzumi Mana.

Himari from Omamori Himari also won in by far the closest match of the first round, rallying past Saki’s Senoo Kaori and surviving split votes with Jinguuji Kuesu, who finished fourth. Settling for third was ToHeart 2’s Kousaka Tamaki.

Saimoe action resumes Monday, August 16 after a four-day break due to Comiket festivities.

1st 271 votes | Himari @ Omamori Himari
2nd 267 votes | Senoo Kaori @ Saki
3rd 125 votes | Kousaka Tamaki @ ToHeart2 adplus
4th 107 votes | Jinguuji Kuesu @ Omamori Himari

Well, everything went as expected, and we finally had an entertaining match with Himari and Kaori, which could’ve gone anyway. Although much of the small margin can be attributed to Kuesu being there to screw Himari. But at the end of the day, my gut feeling was right even before seeing the graph that Himari can pull through, and once again, Himari’s MC status overcame the superior Saki series mojo.

Speaking of superiority, Nagi once again proves why she’s one of the all-time greats, doing what was expected of her despite the early hiccup against Yukimura Chizuru. So with that win, she moves into third all-time in Saimoe wins, fittingly tied with Shana. Who will prevail at the end of the day? Also, FFDQ’s win was pretty nice, breaking 400 is nothing to scoff at, the way the tournament is shaping up, and with this, it’s shaping up to be a good one for that Yuno-Nadeko/Yui-Nagi collision course. But for now that wil have to wait. So once again I split my picks to go 9-9, while predictions now improved to 15-3.

Speaking of waiting, there’s this Comiket break for four days, and to compensate for the lack of posts for the days to come, I’ll be working on some Saimoe stuff that I can hopefully share with you guys.  Hopefully is the keyword here. But yeah, I think it’s due time to update the leaderboard in the sidebar, and it will be up in a while. For now, enjoy the break since the matches that come thereafter will be very very good.~

Whoa… Nagi dominant in her victory. Very impressive. It hurts to see Nazuna lose like that.

What a tight match between Himari and Kaori. Looks like there wasn’t enough split votes between Himari and Kuesa. That’s impressive to me.

I’m glad for the 4 day break. I need to take it easy from Saimoe. Whew… ISML and Best Moe also taking place. I don’t know how others handle all those other moe tournaments. That’s some discipline and commitment you guys have there.

Well… you have about 3 weeks until ISML gets started with it’s postseason. KBM… I guess it’s 2 weeks (right?) until the main tournament starts. You will be one busy writer/artist/fan. Good luck! I really look forward to what you create.

Thanks, though I doubt I’ll be able to give as much coverage to the other two moe tournaments as much as I do for Saimoe. I’m keeping an eye on those two though, since they have some interesting storylines going for them, especially for ISML (Taiga shooting for triple-crown, Shana looking to finally win “one” Hina aiming for two-peat, etc).
