Friendly Fire

Takamachi Nanoha of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha fame made a triumphant comeback by finishing number one in Group Six, which featured three Saki characters who have made at least Top Sixteen in the Anime Saimoe Tournament 2009. The Saki trio Touyoko Momoko, Haramura Nodoka and Ikeda Kana finished second, third and fourth place respectively.

The other finishers from what has been a competitive group were Yuuki Mikan of To-Love-Ru, Kirishima Shouko of BakaTest, Konjiki no Yami, also from TLR, Saber of Fate/Stay Night, Eruruu of Utawarerumono, Souya Yuki of Taishou Yakyuu Musume, and Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee of Macross Frontier.

Rest of the results can be found here.

Nanoha is still on top of her game, that’s a great sign for her entering the elimination rounds. On the other hand, it was expected that Saki was going to regress a little in power, but that didn’t hinder Momo, Nodoka and Kana from clinching three of the top four slots. Mikan continues to prove that she’s the top TLR girl and still has the ability to do good in Saimoe. Shouko was a bit of a disappointment for BakaTest but we’ll still see if they are capable of making an impact as I originally expected them to. Saber and FSN appears to be not really relevant in Saimoe, but there is some hope for Moe Baseball Girls.

I went 11 of 12 in picks, and once again I overestimated Precure. 2004 was really a long time ago, Nagisa. As for picks, 7-3-0. Moving along, time for some speculation.

Group Seven Preview

  1. Yui
  2. Index
  3. Hajime
  4. Hiiragi
  5. Hinagiku
  6. Evangeline
  7. Tsuruya
  8. Yin
  9. Ayuzawa Misaki
  10. Etou Fujiko
  11. Maria
  12. Jinguuji Kuesu

This is a decent group, with all eyes focused on the battle of two juggernaut factions and their representative characters. Angel Beats! takes on Railgun, Yui vs Index. I expect Yui to prevail in the end, since Index after all, only had cameo appearances in the Railgun anime, although I know that won’t stop novelfags from pushing her. Can Hiiragi and Hinagiku score for Hanamaru? Maybe, considering that Yamamoto proved to be a step behind the big guns (K-ON!) but a step ahead of the rest. Evangeline is one of the ever-present Negima’s flagships, so she is due for a slot. Tsuruya, (same VA as Eva btw), has Haruhi mojo going, so mark one for her. Yin seeks to follow what Suou started, and since this is not that tight of a group as compared to the earlier ones, she’ll make it. Misa-chan has MC status in a fairly popular show, while Fujiko might get one since Junko was passable previously. Maria should help Umineko finally breach the main draw, while spculating on Jinguuji Kuesu to nab a slot since she’s one of the more popular Omamori Himari girls.

For my picks:
Hiiragi – Index – Evangeline
Yin – Aa-san – Hajime – Torako
Octavia – Misa-chan – Fujiko

Hiiragi is Ayahime and awesome tier. Index is TOU-MA~ Iguchi Yuka tier. Evangeline for Matsuoka Yuki and superior loli vampire tier. Yin is for bling loli tier, Aa-san for fun GA character tier, Hajime is for cool tier, Torako is for hilarious tier, Octavia for Rie tier, Misaki for blushing seitokaichou tier, and Fujiko for villainous Shizuka Itou tier.

For group eight we will have another one of those powerhouse showdowns, so I’m very much looking forward to that. But for now, that’s about it.
