A Little Braver

Yui of Angel Beats! held off a challenge by To Aru Kagaku no Railgun’s Index to clinch first place in Group Seven of the Anime Saimoe Tournament 2010 Preliminary Round. It was an impressive performance from the first major representative of the Angel Beats! contingent in this year’s tournament. However, also noteworthy was the second place finish of Index, who barely had screentime in the Railgun anime.

Completing the top five were Saki’s Kunihiro Hajime, Ayuzawa Misaki of Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, and Hiiragi from Hanamaru Kindergarten. Sixth to twelveth-place finishers were Tsuruya-san of Suzumiya Haruhi series, Hinagiku of Hanamaru, Yin of Darker than Black, Jinguuji Kuesu of Omamori Himari, Yukimura Chizuru of Hakuoki, Evangeline McDowell of Mahou Sensei Negima! and Ushiromiya Maria from Umineko series.

Check this for the complete results.

Yui rallied in the end, so it appears we’ll be seeing much AB final rushing throughout the tournament. Index performed better than what I have hoped for, although I already predicted she’ll finish second. Misa-chan was a nice surprise. I was spot on relying on Hiiragi to deliver. Again, overestimated Color Wars. Maria finally breaks the Umineko curse in this tournament so far. The best loli vampire was not so stellar, but then again Negima has dipped in power so much. Omamori Himari made a decent debut too, by the way.

For picks, did not lose anyone again, and that’s what maters. Going to have to sport Aa-san, Octavia, Fujiko and Torako in the second prelims.

Group Eight Preview

Prediction:

  1. Inami Mahiru
  2. Senjougahara Hitagi
  3. Sanzen’in Nagi
  4. Maria
  5. Asahina Mikuru
  6. Aizawa Sakuya
  7. Akaba Chizuru
  8. Tsuchida Satsuki
  9. Sae
  10. Kirishima Akari
  11. Shimada Minami
  12. Umemori Chise

Wow, tough group. Major powers Working!!, Bakemonogatari, Hayate, Haruhi are all represented here, as well as SeiZon, Hidamari, BakaTest, Nyan Koi! and Hanamaru.

I have Mahiru winning because she’s apparently the top Working!! girl although Hitagi will try to make it close. Nagi, Maria and Sakuya are there to ensure that Hayate remains relevant as a faction, and Mikuru will try to restore the 2006 Haruhi renaissance. Satsuki gets a slot because Hanamaru has a decent backing and she’s one of their more popular characters. Sae gets the Hidamari support as well as being a Saimoe regular. Akaba Chizuru has SeiZon mojo so she’ll be clinching a slot too. I see Akari, Minami and Chise getting theirs but it will be a tightly contested group. Color Wars’ Korone and Kuzumi Mana of Ookami Kakushi will ensure that there will be a battle for the final slots. Kuronuma Sawako is also a wildcard. So it’s all good and exciting.

My picks will go in this wise:

Nagi-Hitagi-Maria-Sakuya-Chizuru-Kyouka-Korone-Sae-Sawako-Makie

  • 3000 reasons to vote for Nagi (FFDQ)
  • Maria for Tanaka Rie vote, sweeper, maid, observer, forever 17, etc
  • Hitagi for a very interesting character, sexy to boot
  • Sakuya has harisen moe and Kana Ueda \o/
  • Kanejou Kyouka for KobaYuu, also funny character and them sparkles
  • Korone for trollbot vote
  • Sae for Shintani Ryoko
  • Sawako for Mamio
  • Makie for one of the better Negima girls
  • Chizuru just because she trolls the crap out of Ken, and has Kurimu’s number.

Thus ends the rambling for now, and coming up next is a match between two of last year’s quarterfinalists. Find out who tomorrow.

instead of Little Braver, should Yui title be Death metal Rock? Little Braver reminds of Tama-chan form bamboo blade.

Little Braver is the name of the third GirlDeMo single released. The song itself didn’t appear in the anime which was a shame since it’s an excllnt song.

    Basically what suzushinayuriko said.

Named the headline after a GirlDeMo song, considering Yui is in it. Thanks for the suggestion though 😀
