Electrifying Return

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun’s Misaka Mikoto started off her Saimoe 2010 championship drive on the right track as she obliterated the group two competition in a rather convincing fashion, and setting the early standard for Saimoe standouts to match.

Clannad’s Kyou predictably clinched second place, while Hidamari Sketch’s Hiro, placing third, demonstrated that they are here to stay. Saimoe rookies Kaede Mizuno from Nyan Koi and Takanashi Kozue from Working rounded out the top five.

The rest of the Main Draw qualifiers are Shakugan no Shana’s Yoshida Kazumi, Katanagatari’s Togame, Kampfer’s Mishima Akane, Ladies versus Butlers’ Daichi Kaoru, Negima’s Ayase Yue, Working!!’s Shirafuji Kyouko, and Princess Lover’s Houjuin Seika.

Again, the rest of the results can be found here.

I liked the fact that Hiro did good enough to clinch third place, and from the outcome of the much it can be gleaned that Working has some serious series mojo. Nice to see Mizuno do as expected. Apparently the only one I didn’t get right was NEEDLESS, but now I know better. :>

Group 3 Preview

Two of the powers from 2009 will get back to action as Group 3 begins, as Saki’s Ryuumonbuchi Touka and Hayate’s Segawa Izumi, Kijima Saki and Hanabishi Miki lead a group of Saimoe 2010 Main Draw hopefuls. Interestingly, Touka lost her opening match in the main draw against Hayate’s Maria, while Izumi was edged out by Saki’s Amae Koromo in a nailbiter, also in the same round. So one of these will be looking to raise the ante for the main round.

Today’s prelim grouping, although somewhat devoid of “star power” should be a good way of gauging how far these two factions have come after a year. In any case, these are the twelve that I reckon will make the cut, as well as projected rankings.

  1. Segawa Izumi
  2. Ryuumonbuchi Touka
  3. Kijima Saki
  4. Nakamichi Kana (Kanamemo)
  5. Oomichi Miyabi (GA)
  6. Mitsuki Sohara (Sora no Otoshimono)
  7. Marin (Umi Monogatari)
  8. Shimizu Miharu (Baka Test)
  9. Tsumuhana Isuzu (Ookami Kakushi)
  10. Natsume (Hidamari)
  11. Hanabishi Miki
  12. Sekine (Angel Beats)

Some of the rookie Saimoe franchises are also debuting today albeit not as explosive as Working, Bakemonogatari or SeiZon did on opening day. And not that much star power either. I trust that Kana’s MC status is enough to push her onto fourth, while Kyoujyu should also do well, since it’s GA and i’m expecting good stuff rom them at least at the early stages. Mitsuki is there for the reason that Ikaros somewhat did well, amid strong competition. I don’t know how Ookami Kakushi will do but put in a character randomly anyway, while decent Hidamari mojo should carry Natsume. I think Miki would somehow sneak in again like last year. Same with AB’s Sekine. As for Baka Test, I think Miharu’s good enough to get in, at least.

My vote plan will be like this:

Touka @ Saki) – RIICHI DESU WA. Also, Minorin BANZAI.
Segawa Izumi @ Hayate no Gotoku!! – HAYATA-kUN!
Oomichi Miyabi (Kyoujyu) @ GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class – one of the best characters in GA. deadpan-tan~
Nakamachi Kana @ Kanamemo – episode four of kanamemo. nuff said.
Anehara Misa @ Yoku Wakaru Gendai Mahou – modern magic and styling.
Marin @ Umi Monogatari: Anata ga Ite Kureta Koto – UmiMono was pretty sweet and she has something to do with it. Also, Asumi Kana vote.
Kijima Saki @ Hayate no Gotoku!! – vote for loyalty or something.
Hanabishi Miki @ Hayate no Gotoku!! – teases Hinagiku and doesn’t afraid of anything, etc.
Mitsuki Sohara @ Sora no Otoshimono – uhm, yeah.
Natsume @ Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ – it’s not like she likes Sae or anything.

And that’s a wrap for this day. Group four can’t come soon enough.
