Victorique de Blois upsets Hirasawa Yui for an automatic entry into the regular season of ISML 2011. A three-way contest with Asahina Mikuru may have split KyoAni voters between Yui and Mikuru, but nevertheless Victorique gets the victory by more than 100 votes. Six out of eight group winners in I-8 are newcomers to ISML, with the other two being both Lucky Star characters, Izumi Konata and Hiiragi Kagami. Angel Beats! once again showed their power with Yui and Tachibana Kanade being the only contestants to win in all regions around the world.

Clannad looks to be declining for sure, but how the hell is Lucky Star still having this much popularity? Even though Konata and Kagami were in relatively easy groups, Izumi shouldn’t have been able to beat Nagi and Kagami shouldn’t have been able to beat Nagisa.
Yui gets a huge win over Seraphim and Haruna due to vote splits, but it was still an impressive win nonetheless, grabbing the highest Win % out of all arena.
Kanade makes two strong contestants from last year look like a joke.
Sakura won a match?!? Yuuki didn’t get last place? Yay!
Konata beat Nagi, which should be a big deal. It seems like there may be a vote split between Nagi and Rose, so both Victorique and Konata may have gotten lucky. The map indicates that the majority of Nagi supporters are clumped around China:
Many people want to point out how close Homura came to beating Holo. I’m guessing the latest Madoka episode did help, but it won’t for people who were bored by the lack of character development and dropped it 4-5 episodes in.
All in all, I am not frustra’d this round, although that depends on how many K-ON! characters eventually makes it into regular season.

Phase II, which is single elimination, will continue, also yielding 16 entrants into regular season. Since the II-1 and II-2 are relatively pointless and predictable, I’ll post about them together~
PS: Fate won.
